Chapter 13 by HiBeGi HiBeGi

Is Gwen NOW able to figure it out?

Of Course Not

Gwen kept swinging from building to building, which was slightly more difficult than usual given that she only had one web shooter, but it was nothing she couldn't handle. Soon, the Spider-Woman discovered she had cleared a city block in less than a minute. Gwen swung herself to the closest building to her in order to rest, sticking to its side. The building consisted mostly of windows, meaning the people inside could view her tattered costume, which was annoying, but Gwen had more pressing matters to deal with.

That woman's abilities were odd. The two of them had been battling for four minutes now, and Gwen still didn't understand just what the hell her powers were. At first she thought it was just invisible limbs, but Holly or whatever had said something about an evil spirit. So, what? She had a ghost who hovered around her and carried out her every command? If that's that was it, then that doesn't really help with figuring out how to defeat her. The real issue was how the spirit was surpassing her spider-sense at times. Sometimes Gwen could dodge, other times she couldn't. The reason was because of speed; that was clear. The spirit was naturally fast; after all, it could keep up with the hero. What Gwen was having trouble figuring out was the spirit's random increases in speed. There had to be a reason for them. Before Gwen's mind could go further into hypothesis, that damned Spider-Sense of hers blared out to her.

The threat was coming fast, but it was a distance away. Gwen's body tensed as she awaited the threat to come. It was that escapee again. She had recovered surprisingly fast from her depantsing. It was almost like she was hot on Gwen's heels. The Spider-Sense kept warning Gwen as the threat kept getting closer and closer to her. Gwen waited for the sound of her foe crashing into buildings as she launched herself from building to building, but the sound never came. Gwen could only hear the murmuring of the people from inside the building she was on and the typically loud sounds of the NYC streets. Gwen continued to wait for the sound the closer the threat got to her, her body growing more tense at the lack of it. Gwendolyn's mind began to wander as she waited. How exactly did her foe know her location? Gwen knew her enemy hadn't followed her as she made her escape. So, that meant she was being tracked through some unknown means. The superheroine looked down at her right hand, starring down at where her web-shooter used to be. Besides the spirit, her foe had a second, unknown ability. Was that how she was tracked? Just what superpower lottery did this chick participate in and win? Gwen could feel every muscle in her body tightening to its max as the seconds passed, her heart rate increasing with every scream from her Spider-Sense until...From the left!

Gwen let herself drop from her position on the window as a shadow passed over her. Gwen turned to face the threat above her as she fell, just in time to see the window she had stuck to explode, sending glass shards everywhere. People on the inside screamed and dove in fear of the glass shards that were sent flying. The culprit behind this was none other than Jolyne Cujoh, who had used 「STONE FREE」to slam its knee into the window pane that Gwen had rested on. It seemed that the stand user had wasted no time in freeing herself and quickly following the hero, even finding time to repurpose her ripped pants into some crude skirt. Gwen let herself fall for a moment, the wind blowing against her exposed hair as she fell, before shooting a web over to another building in the distance and pulling herself toward it.

As Gwen made her way from the New York skyline once more, her spider-sense warned her of her foe being in hot pursuit of her. Due to a lack of booming, that meant she had found another way to keep up with her in the air. Ghost-Spider glanced behind her while firing another web toward a building to her left and swinging from it. Gwen watched as Jolyne rapidly made her away toward her, using both her hands to- Any thoughts running through Gwen's mind was suddenly snuffed out and replaced with a singular which quickly made it way to her mouth. "Are you swinging?!" The heroine shouted in complete and utter shock. Gwen couldn't believe what she was seeing, her foe using the same method of traversal that she used. To make things more confusing, Jolyne was swinging using nothing. No, not that what she was using was hyper thin but that as far as Gwen could tell, Jolyne was swinging off the the air around her.

"I learned from the best, I guess." Jolyne responded with a cocky smirk planted on her face. That was just great. She had given inspiration to her opponent, just what she needed. The stand user was just barely slower than the hero, meaning Gwen still had the lead, but she wasn't sure how much longer that would be the case. Gwen continued to stare at Jolyne in bafflement, any danger or obstacle that were in front of her wouldn't be an issue since her spider-sense would warn her in advance. As Gwen continued to stare at Jolyne, she soon noticed something. Gwen squinted her eyes to get a better look, her gaze narrowing on her opponent's fingers, which revealed something strange. The tops of her fingers were missing from one hand but present in the other. That quickly changed as Jolyne switched to her opposite hand to swing from, her finger being disassembled and rebuilt almost like a 3D printer prints something. The oddest part was the lack of blood, it was just like when Jolyne's hand had been "severed." Gwen was completely baffled by this woman. Just what the hell was she?

Is Gwen able to escape this chase?
