Odette Carlyle (Ship Doctor)
The first few weeks were very busy ones for Odette. Many crew members had been wounded during the battle and subsequent crash landing. She was a young doctor, petite, green eyed with blonde hair; she fresh out of medical school when she landed on the frigate in an attempt to support the war effort. Prior to the battle she spent her time mostly dealing with short term viruses, and handing out medication to marines returning from shore leave who had contracted STDs from the local working girls. Having been mostly confined to either the OR, her office or the mess hall, she was surprised when she was called up to the bridge to meet with the Commander.
They needed her to visit the Elven city of Elythyn which had come under attack by a horde or Orcs. A platoon of marines were being dispatched to help protect the city, having Odette on site to assist with the injured would further help strengthen relations with the Elves. As the youngest of the three doctors on-board, she knew she was also considered the most expendable in this case.
Odette wore a dark blue sweater and pair of black leggings. Her outfit was completed by a pair of heeled boots and white lab coat that snapped closed across her chest but otherwise flowed freely in the wind. Her belt contained pouches full of simple medical supplies such as bandages and syringes. She snapped her PAGE (Personal Assistant Guidance Equipment) onto her left arm. The PAGE was an arm length metal gauntlet that could quickly access and display relevant medical information as well as perform simple blood tests.
The caravan consisted of about forty marines in five ADL5 class troop transports, the marines jokingly called them the armadillos due to their strongly reinforced shells. Each ADL ran on six wheels and possessed a manned turret topside. the ride was bumpy but it didn't bother Odette. She merely gazed out the reinforced window taking in the site of a new world. She soon drifted off into slumber as the long journey dragged on.
She awoke to the sound of gunfire. She opened her eyes to find the marines in her vehicle frantically communicating on the radio as the marine on the turret fired wildly. Then a loud crash, the whole vehicle shook as if it had collided with a wall, Odette peaked out of the window to find night had set it. Suddenly an oversized green giant with large tusks protruding from its mouth was slamming its boulder sized fists against the transport. A burst of fire from the turret sent the creature crashing backwards. however two more emerged from the darkness and came charging at the vehicle. One leaped on top of the transport and pulled the marine manning the turret out, flinging him across the night sky. The beast's arm reached into the vehicle and began grabbing at anything it could.
It pawed at Odette as she scrambled away from the monstrous hand. In a panic she pulled the lever releasing the emergency escape hatch beneath the vehicle. She slid down the hole and crawled on her elbows through the dirt and rocks as the sound of gunfire and monstrous roars filled the air. She crawled on her stomach until she reached the brush, then she pulled herself up and ran through the forest as fast as she could. Had she slowed down she may have noticed the edge of hill. Odette tripped over an exposed tree root which sent her rolling down a steep hill.
When she opened her eyes again it was daylight. Her head was pounding and she felt a small open gash across her forehead. she pulled a disinfectant and small adhesive bandage from her belt, using them to seal her wound. She tried to communicate with Emi through her PAGE but it was no good. She looked behind her, the hill was steep and would be a difficult but not necessarily impossible climb. She didn't know how much time had passed however and whether the marines had already left or worse if they perished in the attack. There could also be more Orcs still up there. She could hear the sound of water running nearby. A river might lead to a settlement, or she could venture into the forest, her compass could guide her back to the Ithaca.
River? Forest? or make the climb?
