He nodded knowingly. "Now this may be a little unpleasant. I'll make a small but fundamental change to your personality. Hold still for me." He place both hands on her head and she felt a light buzzing.
Suddenly her vision went black and she felt a searing pain in her mind. It seemed to go on forever and yet last only a moment. Her mind stretched like warm taffy and slowly, slowly regained its shaped. It was like nothing she'd ever experienced. It was like a thousand years of erosion in an instant, like a blinding light coming from behind her eyeballs, like a stitch in the side of her brain. She was falling into-
"...and of course the little bastard tells me I'm still considered a valuable member of the team. How do you like that? I'm supposed to be in charge of the fucking team."
Daphne rubbed her forehead. There was a moment where... she had just had a splitting headache but it passed as quickly as it came. She looked up to Cynthia. "I'm sorry, I just had a weird headache. You were saying?"
"I'm supposed to be the one in charge but now the guy who's only my boss because his uncle's on the board is giving me a pep talk. A pep talk! From this asshole! The balls on this guy, it's unbelievable..."
Daphne nodded attentively with a sympathetic smile. Cynthia had a tendency to ramble on at times, but she didn't really mind. After all, she was a great listener.
