The debugger smiled at a job well done. Back home, Daphne was listening attentively to her friend whine about work without any sign of a breakdown.

Christa had had a pretty normal morning. It wasn't till the afternoon that things got weird.

As usual, she ate her bagged salad and yogurt at her desk. As the receptionist at a mid-size electrical engineering firm, taking a lunch break meant finding someone to cover for her. That was usually a hassle so she was content to eat at her desk.

Wrapping up, she took her empty containers into the kitchen to clean up. As she was rinsing and drying her bowl, Ken Richards walked in.

Ken was one of the engineers. A lot of them were antisocial or standoffish but she liked Ken. He had an easy, self-deprecating charm she found appealing. At one point she'd even harbored a little crush on him.

"Hey, Ken! How's it going?" As he turned to her she felt a bizarre shift, like reality briefly fractured.

Ken was standing very close to her. She felt an odd pressure and realized his hand was under her shirt, squeezing her left breast. "Oh, you know, same old, same old. How about you?"

She was too shocked to respond. Still squeezing, he became concerned. "You ok, Chris?"

"Ken, what the hell are y-" she stopped. He was back across the room. "What was-" Now her shirt was fully unbuttoned and he had both hands on her chest.

Christa felt like she was losing her mind. She opened her mouth to tell him off when there was another shift. Suddenly she was fondling herself. Her mouth opened and Ken's voice came out. "Do you need to lie down? Are you ok?"

She was really confused. Ken was suddenly standing next to her. "Uh, yeah, I've got to go." Rushing out of the kitchen, she bumped into her boss. "Hey Christa, are you ok?"

He handed her a sheaf of papers. "Here are the invoices you asked for."

"What invoices?"

"For the presentation you're-" he shifted, "-getting to the airport by 4 to pick up-" another shift, "-the kids from church camp."

She stumbled backwards and fell.

Christa was in a nondescript room looking at a nondescript man. "Relational instability," he said wearily. "This one's gonna take a while."
