Chapter 61

What shall he see in the adorable critter's future?
Oblivion, Devastation, and Extermination
I was in a very different place than a moment ago. I could tell this was a long way away, which made me happy. It let me know that whatever would be my little friend's fate was far away. As I looked around, the structures were slightly more advanced, being of more uniform design than simply medieval.
As I looked around, I saw a stunning castle in the distance. That left little doubt in my mind, 'This is the capital. But how could it have gotten here? If it's a monster, it most certainly would have been stopped. So then, why is my vision of its future taking place in the capital?' I pondered that, before my answer was given in one of the most horrifying ways possible.
A horrid, deafening screech blared as three beams of energy, one black, one white, and one seemingly made of cracks, streamed out from a point behind me, and collided with the castle. There was a soundless boom, and the castle was immediately disintegrated in a flash of blinding light. I braced as a shockwave raced towards me, but it simply passed by due to my non-corporeal state in the vision.
I stared in awe at the barren lands before me, the castle and much of the surrounding area being reduced to less than ash. The buildings around me ravaged by the shockwave, lucky to be standing if they were. I slowly turned around, absorbing the sudden change of atmosphere as the once brilliant city was reduced to ruin in a single attack.
And once I had turned around, I saw it. A towering beast, a dragon-like being with no wings, but three heads. Its whole body was covered in large, thick black scales. Each of its heads radiated a different power. From left to right there was a white energy that came off in energetic flares, a crackling energy that seemed to leave a distortion in its wake, and lastly a black energy that floated down like a heavy fog.
The great beast roared, starting with one head and the others joining after. This roar continued until a bright light shined to the right of it, its heads being distracted from their chorus by this strange intrusion. The light focus, and took shape, as it formed into five humanoid beings.
I recognized them immediately, of course. It was the heroes. I lamented the fact that as always, the heroes had come to end the horrid villain, yada yada. I watched in annoyance, watching as they worked together to send forth a powerful attack that staggered the great multi-headed creature.
But as I waited for the vision to end, I was surprised to instead see the creature step back up. Its form somewhat distorted into the three elements its heads emitted, before slowly returning to its former state. Once whole again, all three heads reared back before lashing forward and roaring in unison.
What I watched was unprecedented. It was a battle that lasted long only due to the Heroines' mobility and ability to teleport away when the beast prepared another great blast. The elements the beast utilized were clearly abnormal, as they seemed to prevent the Amazon Queen's regeneration, leading to her comparatively quick **** due to her reckless fighting style. Seemingly overtaken by rage, the Redeemed was the next to get sloppy in her evasion and take a blast from the three beams, instantly dying. The Arch-Imago and Archbishop were the next to fall, both running out of mana and becoming too fatigued to dodge anymore.
At last, it was simply the Hero of light and this being of utter annihilation. It was clear that while they had managed to damage it, she would not win. I watched eagerly, wondering if this would truly be a moment where "evil" won. As the great beast drew back its heads to charge another attack, the heroine seemed to curse, and bring something out of her bag.
#####
It was near instant. I barely saw the item in her hand before the vision abruptly ended. I moved my hand outside the cage to my forehead, trying to massage away the splitting headache I gained. After blinking a few times, my vision returned, and I was graced with the sight of the adorable Reptal staring at me in apparent confusion.
I let out a sight as I went over what I gained from this vision. 'In the normal timeline, this little guy would be responsible for the deaths of at least four of the five heroes... Or at least that's the conclusion that makes sense. I suppose it could be possible he was just in a gutter nearby the whole time, but the resemblance was clear. It's hard to imagine, but I see no evidence against it. On the other hand, the Heroine seemed highly **** to use that item, and very much was not happy in the end when using it. This makes me believe it wasn't some holy artifact, but some item that is evil in a way. It also was able to kick me out of Gaze into Fate, so it is quite powerful.'
As I was spaced out in my thought, I was unaware when the Reptal finished eating the food in my hand. I was made aware as it started rubbing its face in my palm, in a similar manner to a cat. I couldn't help but question how this adorable thing was the same as the horror in my vision, but I did know one thing.
I made a promise to the little critter, "I will make sure you never have to face such hardships as that. At least not alone."
The Reptal looked at me in a confused expression. It seemed like it perhaps knew what I said, but not what I meant. I gave a kindly chuckle as I carefully moved my hand and began to pet it, which it allowed.
What could possibly ruin this beautiful moment?
