Mister Miller hadn’t expected this to actually happen. When the men in suits came claiming to be from that Giant Multinational Extensive Enterprises, Miller thought he was being pranked. He still didn’t believe that that was the company’s real name. They offered him a deal to be the sole retail seller for a new product line in the state, a new line of smart phone. He would get to keep half of the one-hundred-dollar subsidized test market price of the new phone and act as host the sign-up equipment in his shop for the first customers. It seemed like a godsent, fifty bucks on each unit stayed in his pocket and the nearest big box store or service provider store front was an hour drive away if the weather was good. He felt there were still some trap hidden in all of this, but Extensive Enterprises had delivered.

“EE-900s,” his grandson said as he put together the display stand and small tablet kiosk thing to activate the phones.

“Yes, the suits said this was a test market for it,” Mister Miller responded.

“Well, the specs are decent, the graphics are good and it has all the same apps on it’s store as the other guys,” the grandson said.

“You are rather excited over this phone Liam,” the grandmother, Mrs Miller, said.

“Nana, this is like finding actual prints from your favorite designer in a discount bin at the local goodwill instead of having to drive to Agusta to the authorized retailer,” the grandson said, “I am getting one.”

“Don’t waist your money,” Mister Miller said.

“With everything, it is cheaper than going to Bangor Grandpa,” Liam said.

Before lunch Mister Miller was calling the rep from Extensive Enterprises.

“Yes? Mister Miller was it?” the young man’s voice was polite, “I am Peter with the retail partners assistance program, the forwarding notes said you have problem with our smart phones sales. What seems to be the problem? How can I help?”

“I am out, I got five phones in and they all sold out,” Mister Miller said flatly.

“Ah, well, let me take a look at something, what model phones?” Peter asked.

“The EE-900 smart phones,” Mister Miller said.

“Yes of course, I see it here, the test market program,” Peter said clearly having read notes on his end and filling in gaps, “I will have an order sent out for more units to be over-nighted to you from our warehouse. If they get it before one it should be there by eleven tomorrow otherwise eleven the day after. How many units do you want?”

Mister Miller thought of his cash reserves in his accounts for a second, he had to pay out fifty bucks a unit…

“Another twenty-five?” Mister Miller said calmly.

“And order is submitted, we will bill you at the end of the month,” Peter informed Mister Miller.

By the afternoon, Liam and others had discovered the small projectors built into the top corners of the front and back of the phone. It allowed for a simple holographic display. Mister Kelly used it to talk to his mother via a video chat program while Liam and another boy used it to play a Pokémon rip-off game that night in the street.
