Not the Date she Expected

Holly arrived at the bar she had been directed to meet Steve at right on time, unable to shake the nervous feeling she had as she entered. She wondered what would happen if Steve didn't like what he saw in person. She knew she was a pretty young woman with a fine figure and had worn a sexy little black number that highlighted both her perky breasts and shapely legs. Nonetheless, he seemed like the kind of guy who could have whatever girl he wanted. What if she wasn't enough.

Holly looked around the bar and realised Steve wasn't to be seen. That was a little disappointing for a first date but she was sure he had a good excuse. He was a busy guy working in a senior position in a law firm so it wasn't that surprising. She sat at the bar and ordered herself a glass of red wine while she waited.

As she reached the bottom of her glass she was starting to wonder if she had been stood up, or if the whole thing had just been some kind of prank on her. She was debating whether to order another drink or leave when a high pitched, nasally male voice addressed her.

"Hey, nice ring. You want another drink?"

Holly turned around to be confronted by a short, overweight balding man who had to be at least fifty. He was sloppily dressed in oversized jeans and a large Star Wars T-shirt. Holly couldn't help but feel like this guy thinking he was in any position to hit on her added insult to injury.

"The ring means I'm taken" Holly answered curtly.

"I know Holly, you're taken by me" the man replied as he took a seat next to her "I'm Steve"

"You're Steve!" Holly turned her nose up in undisguised disgust "So this has all been a waste of my time then. You think I would have spent a single second talking to you if you hadn't tricked me with that photo? I suppose you aren't a lawyer either? Or live in a penthouse in London?"

"I don't work much really, and I live with my parents in the suburbs. But I was only being myself when we talked online and we really hit it off right? So stop being so shallow and give me a chance!"

"Shallow? First you mislead me then you insult me" Holly seethed "I'm not shallow but I do have some standards. I'm leaving now, consider yourself blocked. And you can have your ring back."

Holly stood up and struggled to remove the ring but was unable to budge it an inch and was becoming more frustrated with this "date" by the second.

"Sit down, you are making a scene Steve ordered calmly and, to her surprise Holly did as she was told, a look of confusion on her pretty face that made Steve smile. He knew the ring was working it's magic on her "Okay, now let's start this date again shall we?"
