Chapter 35 by Corruption Corruption

Schools officially over?

Not for you.

You make your way to the woodworking room, and see the other students.

These ones are mostly in year 11, and thus a year behind you.

Going up to them you tell them “Hello. I’m Glen.”

One of the girls frowns and asks “Don’t the year 12s normally come latter?”

You shrug “And most of them did woodwork last year. I got transferred and sent to this class because this school doesn’t have either of the electives I did.”

That shocked the others. “But don’t you need to be signed off to use the machines?”

You nod. “That’s why I’m here. You lot probably know more about woodwork than I do!”

The door opened and it was time to get started.

Bags were put aside and the rest of the students headed to their personal projects.

Belmor, on the other hand, waved you over to him, and said “I can tell you know how to use hand tools generally, but not fine points, like with the nail punch. You just leave the nails showing at the end. That can be dealt with latter.”

He pointed to the scrap wood and told you “Get some scrap so we can practice on the machines. Drill, Lath, Drop saw, and Sander.”

You go there, and get a lot of wood, bringing it back.

However, you get a pen out and start to look over the wood carefully.

Belmor was surprised. “What are you looking for?”

You keep looking as you answer him “Nails or screws. I don’t want to risk injury because of a headless nail was left in, or even just hammered further in to hide that mistake.”

Belmor nodded. “That is something I had not been trained to think about.”

You mark off some nails, and ask him if you missed any.

He looked over them and pointed to a spot. “This looks like it was simply sanded, put there is a bit of putty there disguising a nail.”

You mark it off “That’s why I showed you. You know how to hide nails, and what to look for.”

He gave you basic instructions and demonstrated what to do before having you do the same.

First thing you get was get safety gear, like mask, safety glasses, and gloves. You put your watch in a pocket.

Before using any of the machines, you made sure the air vents were working, and you had a clean, safe working area.

By the end of the club, you had actually been checked out with all the machines. Even the hand held power tools.

That finished just a bit before the club ended for the Day, so you spent the remainder cleaning up. You did not need to be told the dangers of slipping on sawdust while carrying sharp objects.
