Not far... not here, at least

For once in her life, Jenna felt confident, felt happy and appreciated. She didn't want to ruin that feeling by having one of their classmates walk in on this intimate moment, to share it with them and lose that joyful privacy where they could both truly be themselves and be happy in each other's presence. So with a little twinge of regret, she held Hannah's arm, not letting her go any further or pull the shirt away from her body. She heard the muffled "mm?" from the other girl, and gently pulled away.

She recognized the look on Hannah's face from a lifetime of experience with those same emotions: the nervous hesitation, the worry at overextending herself and possibly looking stupid in the process. Jenna gave her a reassuring kiss on the nose, of all places, sweetly affectionate, to show she hadn't done anything wrong. "Not here," she said, "I don't... let's not do this on Ethan's sofa, okay?"

Hannah laughed softly at that, and Jenna beamed with happiness that they were both on the same page. She took Hannah's hand - not the other way around, for once Jenna took the lead in her own life - and after only a few minutes in the pool house, they went back outside. They paid no attention to the people in the pool, to the people probably inside at the party: for them, there was only the other.

Jenna kissed her again before they got back into the car, then again before she could start the engine. "Where are we going?" Hannah asked her.

"...to my house. My parents aren't home, so it'll just be the two of us." Jenna smiled shyly at her, still happy and interested, but a little more social and her normal reserved nature starting to come out just a little. Hannah drove her home, to the dark, empty house, and the two of them went inside.
