Nora leaves the office
The doorknob jiggled, and the door swung open.
Nora pressed her bare back flat against the wall behind the privacy screen, her knees pulled tightly to her chest. She squeezed the giant, neon-green foam hand against her full breasts, while her left arm clamped over her crotch in a desperate, trembling vise. Cold sweat practically poured down her ribs, making her smooth skin glisten in the dim shadow of the screen.
"Oh, look at that," Karen’s sharp Scottish accent purred, sounding terrifyingly close. "She left her scripts on the desk. And... what on earth is that smell? Did she jam the paper shredder with a sweater?"
"Looks like a total blowout," Bobby’s booming voice rumbled. Nora heard the heavy scuff of his work boots as he walked right past her hiding spot, missing her by mere inches. "Smells like burning nylon. Classic writer move. They get stressed, they start destroying office property."
Nora’s heart hammered so hard against her bare ribs she was certain the vibrations would shake the privacy screen. The sheer humiliation of the situation pinned her to the carpet. She was a professional television writer, completely stark naked at her place of employment, hiding behind a flimsy piece of furniture while wearing nothing but a pair of sneakers and clutching a giant novelty foam finger. If either of them took two steps to the left, her nightmare would become a reality. She would be exposed to the entire studio, Karen would ensure she was fired for gross unprofessionalism, and she’d be the laughingstock of the entire entertainment industry.
"Well, Kristen isn't here, so I'm taking her coffee table slot," Karen said with a dismissive sniff. "Come on, Bobby. Let's leave Nora to deal with her mechanical failures."
The door finally clicked shut, and their voices faded down the hall.
Nora let out a ragged, breathless gasp that sounded like a sob, her shoulders slumping. Her entire body was shaking, her skin completely flushed a violent, blotchy crimson from the sheer terror. But she couldn't stay here. Kristen could walk in at any second.
Peeking out from behind the screen, Nora scanned the office. She was trapped. Her clothes were jammed and destroyed in the paper shredder, or impossibly tangled in the wheels of the rolling chair. Taking a deep breath, she decided her only hope was to make a break for the auxiliary wardrobe storage room just two doors down the hall.
Crouching low, she crept out from her hiding spot. The physical sensation of her total nudity at work was overwhelming. Without the protective shield of her baggy cargo pants and hoodies, every movement felt agonizingly loud and heavy. She was hyper-aware of the soft bounce of her full chest, the cool draft swirling around her bare waist, and the prominent, curvy slope of her exposed backside as she tiptoed toward the door. Her sneakers squeaked softly against the carpet, a pathetic reminder of the only clothing she had left.
She cracked Kristen's office door open an inch and peered out. The executive hallway was currently empty, but the distant roar of the studio crew echoed from around the corner.
Holding the giant foam hand firmly over her torso, Nora slipped out into the hallway.
The cold of the corridor wall pressed against her bare hip as she shuffled sideways, her back scraping the paint. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but the heavy scuffing of her sneakers threatened to give her away. She was completely exposed in a corporate hallway. Anyone could turn the corner—Gaten the intern, a celebrity guest, or worse, a network executive. The thought of being caught completely bare under the harsh fluorescent hallway lights made her break into a fresh, panicked sweat. She reached the first door—a broom closet. Locked.
"Hey, Gaten! Did you get those iced lattes for the writers yet?!"
A voice boomed from the main studio entrance at the end of the hall. Nora’s brain short-circuited. Steps were approaching. Someone was coming.
Panicking, her raspy voice catching in a choked squeak, Nora scampered toward the wardrobe room. Her bare thighs brushed together in a frantic, uncoordinated sprint, her shapely bottom shifting with every desperate stride as her heavy sneakers pounded against the floor. She grabbed the handle of the wardrobe room, twisted it, and threw her weight inside, slamming the door shut behind her just as the sound of chatty interns filled the hallway she had occupied only a second prior.
Nora collapsed against the closed door, gasping for air, her bare front pressed against the cold wood as she trembled from head to toe. She had escaped the hallway, but she was still entirely naked, utterly humiliated, and trapped in a maze of costumes with no idea what she was going to wear to survive the rest of the day.
Nora stood with her bare back pressed against the door, her heart thumping a frantic rhythm against the neon-green foam hand still clutched to her chest. Safe from the immediate danger of the hallway, the reality of her environment settled in. Rows upon rows of high-clearance costume racks loomed over her like a fabric labyrinth.
"Okay, okay. Just find a trench coat. A poncho. A giant prop box," Nora muttered, her voice a tight, raspy wheeze.
Keeping her posture low and protective, her sneakers squeaking softly on the concrete floor, she began to rifle through the nearest rack. Her exposed hips brushed against the plastic garment bags as she frantically parted the hangers.
But the universe wasn't offering any favors.
The first rack was entirely dedicated to a canceled retro-sci-fi sketch. Nora pulled out a stiff, metallic silver jumpsuit, but a quick inspection revealed the entire back was completely open for a quick-change gag. She moved to the next row—nothing but heavy, foam mascot suits. For a desperate second, she actually considered climbing inside a giant, sweat-stained hotdog costume, but she realized she wouldn't even fit through the studio doors, let alone survive a pitch meeting in it. Another rack held historical period clothing, but the hoop skirts lacked tops, and the revolutionary war coats were missing their buttons.
A heavy scuff outside the door signaled that the hallway wouldn't stay empty for long. The clock was ticking. If Alanna, the hyper-intense head of wardrobe, walked in and found Nora entirely bare, raiding the inventory, it would be studio-wide news.
Desperate, Nora’s eyes locked onto a small, isolated rack labeled “Pop Star Medley – Backup Dancers.”
She pulled a garment from the hanger, her jaw dropping as her face burned a fresh, violent crimson. It was an outfit engineered for maximum visibility, the absolute antithesis of everything Nora stood for. With no options left, her trembling hands began to pull the fabric over her exposed, blushing skin.
When she finally stepped away from the rack, Nora stared at her reflection in a cracked vanity mirror, a whimpering sigh escaping her throat.
The outfit was her worst nightmare. The top was a violently tight, ribbed pink crop top that barely covered her full breasts, completely exposing her narrow waist and the soft expanse of her midriff. Every time she took a breath, the elastic rode upward, threatening an immediate wardrobe malfunction. Below, she had been forced to squeeze her curvy hips and shapely bottom into a matching denim micro-skirt that was so short it felt more like a wide belt. Her long, pale legs stretched down to her clunky sneakers, completing a look that made her look like a deeply confused, highly anxious pop star.
Nora felt entirely naked despite being technically clothed. Without her baggy armor, her natural hourglass figure was on complete display.
Taking a shuddering breath, she pushed the wardrobe door open and stepped out into the main corridor.
The walk back to the writer's room was a gauntlet of pure humiliation. The quiet executive hallway quickly melted into the bustling production sector, and the shift in atmosphere was instantaneous.
Heads turned. Conversations died.
Gaten, the teenage intern, was walking by with a tray of iced lattes. The moment his eyes hit Nora’s exposed midriff and the tight, riding hem of her skirt, his jaw dropped, his voice cracked into a high-pitched squeak, and the entire tray of coffees tilted dangerously. Bobby, the floor manager, paused mid-sentence into his walkie-talkie, his toothpick nearly falling out of his mouth as he stared at the notoriously reclusive writer suddenly flaunting her curves down the corridor.
Nora kept her eyes glued to the floor, her hands desperately pulling down at the hem of the micro-skirt, which immediately snapped back up her thighs with every stride. Her skin was hot, she felt the weight of a hundred eyes tracking her exposed body.
"Oh. My. God."
The sharp Scottish accent cut through the ambient studio noise like a chainsaw. Karen was leaning against the water cooler, her flawless, tall frame draped in her elegant blazer. As Nora approached, Karen’s eyes slowly tracked from Nora’s sneakers, up her long legs, across her exposed midriff, and up to her burning, flushed face.
A slow, predatory, and entirely bewildered smile spread across Karen's face.
"Well, well, well," Karen purred, stepping directly into Nora’s path, her designer stilettos clicking sharply. "Look who finally decided to read the room—except I think you read the wrong room, darling. Did you audition for a mid-2000s music video on your lunch break? Or is this your desperate attempt to get the network executives to notice your writing?"
Nora’s mouth worked soundlessly for a moment, a tight, defensive stammer escaping her lips. "I-I had a... a wardrobe alteration…. emergency, Karen."
"Clearly," Karen laughed, looking down her nose at the tight crop top. "Though usually, an alteration involves adding fabric, not skimping on it. Don't trip over your own newfound confidence, Nora. Kristen's office is still waiting for those drafts." With a theatrical flip of her red hair, Karen glided away, leaving a trail of smug satisfaction in her wake.
Nora didn't wait. She bolted around the corner and practically threw her weight into the editing bay, slamming the heavy soundproof door shut.
Ayo was sitting in a rolling chair, a script in her lap. She looked up, and for the first time in her professional career, Ayo completely lost her deadpan composure. Her eyes went wide, her coffee cup pausing halfway to her mouth.
"Nora..." Ayo said slowly, her voice hushed. "Are you... are you embarking on a pop-punk midlife crisis?"
"Ayo, I am living in a literal twilight zone," Nora burst out, her voice a breathless, raspy sob as she dropped to her knees right in front of her friend's chair, completely unconcerned with how the tiny skirt rode up her thighs. She was shaking, her hands gripping Ayo’s armrests. "It happened again. I went into Kristen's office, the paper shredder caught my hoodie strings, the chair spun, and it literally sheared every single piece of clothing off my body. I was stark naked, Ayo. Totally bare on the executive carpet."
Ayo’s mouth tightened, the humor instantly vanishing from her face as she saw the genuine terror in Nora's eyes. "Wait, for real? Did anyone see you?"
"No, I hid under the desk, and then behind a screen while Karen and Bobby walked right in!" Nora whispered frantically, cold sweat tracing down her exposed back. "I had to sneak down the hallway naked to the wardrobe room just to find this nightmare. Ayo, think about it. The terrifying nightmare last night where I was naked at work. Then waking up and Chris seeing me bare in my own kitchen. And now, my clothes literally get torn off by office equipment? This isn't a string of bad luck. It feels like... like the universe has structurally re-engineered itself to expose me."
Ayo stared at Nora, looking at the tight crop top, the sheer panic radiating off her friend's flushed skin, and the bizarre escalation of the last twelve hours.
"Okay," Ayo said softly, leaning forward and placing a grounding hand on Nora's bare shoulder. "First of all, you're safe. Nobody saw you naked. Second... that is a terrifyingly specific sequence of events. We need to figure out what the hell is going on, because if this keeps happening, a giant foam hand isn't gonna save you next time."
