Chapter 8 by HiBeGi HiBeGi

Is Gwen able to escape?

Nope

As Spider-Gwen soared through the air, she directed her right hand toward the street light, pressing down with her ring and middle fingers on the actuator of her web-shooter on her palm. A web, about three meters long, launched out of the device on Gwen's wrist and onto the street light. The Spider-Woman then pulled herself forward with the newly created web-line, preparing to make her strategic retreat. Or she would've until her Spider-Sense went off again. The Spider-Sense was constantly active, always warning Gwen or most of the other Spider-Totems of every little thing going on around them. It takes a while to get used to it. To be able to zone out its constant, annoying screaming and only pay attention to it whenever it had something important to say. Right now, Gwendolyn was starting to get annoyed by how many times it was going off. The threat she was facing could only be detected by her Spider-Sense, meaning any of her other senses were completely useless, sort of like fighting against Mysterio, only he would make it so that you wouldn't be able to trust your original five senses. Gwen quickly lifted up the two fingers she lowered, just in time as the cloth that was over her wrist and went out all the way out to the tips of her fingers had been sliced right off, even cutting through the web-shooter on her right hand. It was that damn invisible ****, and apparently it had a much longer range than she had expected.

GGwen fell to the ground, the superhero rolling to disperse the **** of her fall upon making contact with the grassy surface. Gwen looked down at her right hand. The back of it was still covered by the white spandex-like material, but upon flipping it over, it showed that the frontside was completely bare. Gwen spent barely a second viewing the damage done to her right hand before she looked up to face her foe, who was currently slowly walking toward her. "I was originally trying to slice through your wrist, since I thought that's where your spinnerets or whatever were located. Wouldn't believe my surprise when I found out that your webs come from a device on your wrist instead." Jolyne taunted, wincing with every step she took. "So, does that suit do everything for you? I mean, what's the point of having Spider in your name if you can't actually shoot webs from your body? I bet you can't even stick to walls without your gloves and boots."

"I'll reveal my secret in exchange for yours, Fashionista." Gwen taunted back, though part of her was hoping that the ex-con would take it seriously.

Jolyne raised an eyebrow at her crouched opponent, "That being?"

"What exactly are your powers?" The hero answered her foe's question.

A look of slight surprise spread across Jolyne's face. It wasn't a startled surprise but rather an excited one, "You mean to tell me you can't see it?" The prison escapee almost chuckled as she spoke.

"No. Should I?" Gwen inquired

Jolyne smirked slightly, "Your reacting to it, are you not?" the Joestar answered Ghost-Spider's question with her own question.

"Like when you almost cut off my finger just a couple of seconds ago. Yeah, I'm able to react to it." Gwen replied, narrowing her eyes in annoyance. "I'll let you in on that...If you give an actual explanation to your powers." Ghost-Spider jokingly demanded, knowing that she wasn't going to get an actual answer.

"And give away my advantage? Like hell I will!" Jolyne further taunted, summoning 「STONE FREE」beside her, which Gwen's Spider-Sense warned her about. "Let's go with that I'm possessed by an evil spirit. Does that work as an answer?" The stand user taunted.

There was a moment of silence between the two women, with neither making a sound. Green eyes starred into blue as the two blondes found themselves in a staring contest of sorts, trying to predict what the other's next move would be. When Jolyne punched the superhero earlier, she had attached a thread that came off one of her fingers to the hero's costume as a backup in case she potentially escaped.「STONE FREE」had a range of two meters, but the threads that it produced from its user's body extended its range to twenty-four meters if Jolyne had seventy percent of her body unraveled. Her enemy was clever; they always were, so Jolyne wasn't sure when she'd get an opportunity like that again. Jolyne's train of thought was interrupted when her opponent suddenly snapped her eyes shut. The stand user gritted her teeth; her opponent was preparing to do something.

Her eyes were useless in this fight; her Spider-Sense was what Gwen needed to fully trust. Ghost-Spider lets her Spider-Sense do its thing and let her know what was going on around her. Gwendolyn could detect a lady bug the flew off of a nearby flower, the Spider-Sense warning of each wing beat produced by the beetle. She could sense the park's grass swaying in the breeze, the blades swaying side to side as wind pushed against them. Near a building that was across the street, a rat was fighting a pigeon over a quarter of a bagel. Around a mile away, Gwen felt some kid crash his bike into a parked car. The Spider-Woman could even feel her foe's heartbeat, as well as the sudden increase in beats as her foe sprinted toward her. Due to Jolyne's injured legs, Gwen didn't even need to open her eyes to know that the criminals' sprinting looked awkward. What she needed to focus on was that annoying invisible **** that had been pestering her this entire fight and was currently hovering next to her foe as she ran toward her.

Once Jolyne was right in front of Gwen, 「STONE FREE」reeled its left arm back, preparing to punch down on the crouched hero, whose entire body tensed as she prepared to make her own move.

Who's attack lands first?
