Ash took a deep breath.

"I'll have to pass on your offer." the trainer explained, watching the grunt take a deep breath. Her gaze fell to the ground, almost ready to cry.

"Are you sure that's what you want, An- Ash?" she inquired, trying her best to focus on the boy. Part of her wanted to **** it, make him into a proper grunt. But she knew that wasn't how this all worked. It sucked, but that was how life worked. She couldn't control Ash. Her offer was just one option among many on this table. Maybe some other day he would come back and return the favor.

"Yes." Ash whispered, the grunt slowly growing transparent. He just waved as she disappeared, eyes opening back up right after. He sat himself up. Then the tears ducts opened up. The dream played through his head one more time, refusing to let go at the moment. Nor did it care how he felt in that moment.

The choice had been made, for better or worse.
