Chapter 6

How does he test this?
No time for testing, sabotage the night.
Jason took both earrings in his fingers, took a gulp of air and put both on quickly. The shiny small "N"s didn't seem remarkable to him what so ever and it made him briefly reconsider his faith in the trinkets abilities. His current situation spurred him on however as he pinned them to his ear lobes.
They clipped on easily, Jason half expected a clap of thunder or some other cliché, but in the following seconds, nothing. He didn't feel any different, other than the fact he was wearing weird looking, garish earrings. The realisation struck him, they didn't look too flamboyant earlier, it looked perfectly normal, only now he was wearing them did he take a new appreciation of its ascetics. An icy stab struck him in the chest followed by a swell of confidence, this could actually be real he thought.
He recalled how they were supposed to work, all he needed was a statement and they would do their thing. His mind raced, he couldn't really test anything, he didn't have time. Jason considered his options and quickly came up with an answer. He would sabotage tonight somehow, the whole event with just one Normality switch. Hudson and Stacy can't ruin him if he ruins this evening for everyone first. If it works, it works. If it doesn't then he's not going to get into trouble for just saying one sentence to himself, it was a low risk strategy that might pay off, it would have to do.
He thought about making multiple normality statements in order to fix things but he thought against it, he would prefer to keep things as simple as he could. He needed one big simple statement that would just completely shut things down that wasn't going to be a permanent fixture of his life. Something specifically targeted at tonight and not just a cancellation of meetings Jason thought, Stacy, Hudson, hell even his ex where due for some serious humiliation. That also sounded fun, he mused. His quirky, borderline evil little mind swirled around and finally settled on an answer. A statement that would just fuck things up so royally, making life difficult for him would be the last thing on anyone's mind, it had humiliation, chaos and enough craziness to really put these earring to the test to see if people really would think the most ridiculous things would become normal. Jason leaned forward, took a breath and said in a clear voice the statement he came up with.
"Normally..." He started, almost laughing at what he was about to say "...everyone at this event can't help themselves acting more and more like a random farm yard animal the more the night goes on until they leave." He thought a second after he said the statement mulling it over. He tapped his chin, thinking it wasn't quite right, if it's just normal then its to good for some of these people, also they would carry on the evening like nothing is wrong, his aim was sabotage, not a change of pace. "Ah." He said as he got an epiphany. "Normally, people will find this just as embarrassing as if it were not normal." Jason cracked his fingers and put his hands behind his head.
"That should do the trick"
