Chapter 11 by ShadeWriter ShadeWriter

Does Jenny Talk? And What does Mya do?

No Jenny Doesn't

The robot weighed her options. Which given her electronic brain, she quickly calculated out possible outcomes. A brief glimpse inside her mind might be best to reflect this process. In this view, we see a few ‘Jennys’ sitting at a table with a white board nearby in the middle of a maze of circuits and wires. Each one was dressed in different attire and had a name tag or symbol to them.

“We can’t spend time talking to he we need to focus on the thugs.” A Jenny wearing a tight suit with an H symbol said as she tapped the white board that had a layout of the gas station, “We can’t spend time thinking of what we wanna say!”

“Hero is right, besides I think we’d have a 50/50 chance of blowing up at her. Which is something… we’ll have to handle but not now.” One with a more motherly outfit said. Her name tag had an E on it.

“See Emotion backs me, Intel I know you do.” The hero Jenny pointed at another with an I shirt.

“It makes the most logic sense to not only take care of the local problem, but also remove Mya as a distraction.” The I name tag Jenny said, pushing up the glasses she wore and fixed the suit she was in a bit before continuing, “I am bothered by how she got our number though.”

“Are we just going to leave her hanging though?” A Jenny placed at the end of the table, who was oddly without a name tag or indicator.

“Oi, I’m not taking suggestions from some blank Jenny.” Hero cried and bushed it off, “So its agreed, thugs first then deal with Mya. Got it.”

The other Jennie’s nodded and ran off to their stations. The blank Jenny that that had spoken up moved over to the “Emotion” Jenny. “Um… should we…”

“Later…, we’ll get to it later…” was the response, "It's.... difficult. Just wait till later and we'll introduce you to the rest of them." The emtional one said, patting the head of the blank Jenny before running off.

With that, we leave the blank mental Jenny and rejoin Actual Jenny as she gives Mya her reply.

“Call you later.” Came the voice and a disconnect tone.

“She hung up on me?” Mya simply stated as she stared at the phone

“I had predicted that she may not respond. But at least she knows you’re trying to talk to… her?” The Nora hologram trailed off as Mya got up and started to walk out the room, taking the device with her. “Err where are you going?”

“What I should have done, to see her.” Mya said closing the door with a thud. But the hologram wasn’t done.

“What why? You’ve already..”

“Oh shush. I’m assuming it’s do to you being a knock off or whatever but I think her mom would have gone looking for her. So I’m gonna go find her, talk to her, and drag her butt back here if I need to.” Mya said with a finger pointed at the hologram, never slowing her movement as she headed through the house to her destination.

“This is illogical..” The hologram said as it pushed up it's glasses, gearing up to explain why, before Mya made a cutting motion with her hand and glared the hologram down.

“You think Jenny is acting illogical, and she is. Well two can play that game.” The mechanic growled as she got to the garage. She half expected it to be a mess given how fast Jenny burned rubber. No such trail of destruction was there though and for as high techy as the rest of house was, the garage just looked like.... a normal garage. She hadn't processed it when they looked around before. Concrete floor, plenty of storage, couple of monitors and repair stations but nothing that said "Space age".

Jenny has taken the white and blue one, leaving her the black and red motorcycle. Well, that suited her just fine. She grabbed a helmet from a nearby storage rack, and pulled her mechanic jumpsuit further up and zipped it close. Mya took a closer look at the bike, noting how sci-fi it looked. Much like the rest of the place though, Mya was sure it would change to fit any world they found themselves in. Currently the bikes seemed to be a high tech stealth bike. Low drag, low sound, high speed; everything you wanted to not be noticed. Noting a notch on the instrument display, Mya tried and sure enough, the smart device seemed to fit into it. Handy for using it without needing hands.

“Hey you can track Jenny like that right?” Mya asked as she straddled the bike, checking the gauges and settling into the feel of the machine. With a flick of a switch to start, the bike hummed to life. Not the roar she had expected but that could be a good sign.

“To the letter. If you wish to continue….” The hologram started, only to be cut off by the rev of the engine as Mya checked the pedals, and the garage door opening. It didn’t take off with a roar like Mya was hoping for, but the acceleration was high tier. She was already down the road by the time the garage door was closing. And it handled so smooth too.

“I must ask though,” the hologram spoke up from where it sat, “that you don’t reveal my presence to Jennifer.”

“Look that’s something you two are gonna have to deal with, though I mean that more as in her and her mother. I’m just gonna be the one to put you two in a room and have at it.” Mya said as she took a hard turn and turned her thoughts inwards.

Jenny has been so… active after leaving the bedroom when they first woke up. Even when annoyed or bored, she always seemed animated. Possibly due to being a cartoon but that’s just how she seemed to be, emotional and high spirited. To see her that... destroyed..., really bothered the human as she had her own experience with that. Mya was simliar before her parents died and was about the same after. Very... emtionally unstable when she showed any, and just dead otherwise. The spark had died in her for a bit before her granny met her with emotion, not logic like some other adults had tried or the mix of both. Granny basically hammered in what she needed to hear, and what the poor young Mya wanted to hear. That helped get her out of that funk. After that, while she was far more stable, Mya also learned to bottle her emotions up reserving them for family alone.

That wasn’t going to cut it with Jenny, nor did Mya want the robot to follow down a similar path. A world worn Jenny would be the worst thing to happen to her. And logic wasn't going to help as the robot probably would think that would be cold or uncaring, and sink down further into that pit of despair and anger. No the girl needed someone to drag her out of that funk before she lost it or became emotional robotic. Or good kick in the butt to refocus her. Both more than likely.

“Wonder how big of a steel toe boot I'm gonna need...,” Mya thought before pausing, “Wait is this why Cupid set me up as her…, whatever.” Mya frowned as she drove on, “Cupid can’t have predicted this.”

(Back at the Gas Station)

"One gun, one metal pipe with a bit of concrete still on it, hacker probably had a piece on or near him." the robot thought. Jenny was back to spying on the thugs robbing the gas station. Not much had changed save for the big bludgeon wielding thug ransacking the shelves for snake and barking at the customers to move out the way. They didn’t seem to be in a rush to steal from the people, just the store. Or maybe they already did. Either way, gunman was the first target.

Quickly doing some web research, Jenny found that this world had access to heavier ordnance, about on par with her world’s Sky Patrol. Ground level units that is, so heavy caliber solid rounds and light laser weapons. Her net surfing informed her that the gun was a model Sol Redline laser pistol mark 3. A full charge could easily punch through concrete and it didn’t take long to fire it off. A second shot would take longer to warm up, so there was time to deal with him if the first shot went wide.

“But with aftermarket upgrades and tweaking, that might punch harder. Or maybe charge up faster. Could get lucky and just have it blow up in his hand.” Jenny thought as she closed that web tab in her eye. Better to make sure he doesn’t get a shot off anyway, as the laser might hit someone that can’t take it or punch into something that shouldn't take laser shots. That wasn't the only problem.

The thugs were also rigged up, a term she found online for those sporting cybernetic implants. Big guy of course had relaxed with arms with kinetic enhancers so he could probably punch through heavy brick work. Probably also had some sort of nano fiber skin too. Gunman and hacker both had vision augments and the hacker had a bio-cyber interface unit on his hands if the web was right.

“So accuracy increase and can’t let the hacker touch me.” Jenny mentality noted. That interface unit could let him try to hack into her system with just a touch, and Jenny hadn’t had time to test her countermeasures. Worst time to see if her firewall was good was mid combat, something the Cluster had tried a few times before so she should be fine. Maybe, possibly; this WAS a new world after all.

All and all though, not the worst guys to go up against as her first attempt. Even with the upgrades, her quick web search informed Jenny that they were rocking older cheap models. The kind that you get only cause it's cheap and just to get that little extra edge on the streets. ”I can take these guys.” Jenny thought, closing out her internal web browser, “It’s just thugs. Should be a huge problem compared to the weird-o I usually see.”

And after taking a look around, Jenny tried to figure out a plan. Easiest idea she had was to find the ventlation system at the top of the building, she could pump something through that to take the thugs out. Or she could do the whole 'I am the law!' stick and just bulldoze in but.... well that would put the hostages at risk. Maybe try to take them down with stealth instead....

She had a lot of options but....

What was she going to do?
