Chapter 71
by
Shandy
Do you try to talk to Chanel?
No. But you get to know the school nurse
Taking a breath, you tap on the door of the nurse's office and enter. A pretty, black haired woman in a white uniform looks up at you with a curious smile.
"Can I help you? Dean Hawkfeather isn't it?" she says, rising from her desk and offering her hand. "I'm Madison Wulf, the nurse here."
"I came to see how Miss Vallon is doing. I'd like to talk to her if possible."
"She's resting. I gave her a mild sedative. She should be fine after a while, but right now I can't let you talk to her. I understand that someone played a particularly ugly prank on her. Destroyed her favourite teddy bear?"
"Yes, that's right. Are you sure there's no chance I can speak to her? I'm trying to get to the bottom of this." She looks doubtful, a frown creasing her brow.
"I really can't allow that until she's rested. She was quite hysterical when she came in here." The pretty nurse nods thoughtfully. "Miss Vallon is rather high strung. Not an uncommon condition among the students here I'm afraid. On the other hand some of these girls can be very mean. I asked Tiana to go tidy her room and remove all signs of the vandalism so Chanel isn't triggered by seeing it again."
"That was a good idea. I don't think anyone needs more drama."
"If you'd like less drama you're in the wrong place Dean Hawkfeather. You're going to see a lot more before the year is over. Some of these girls have an overdose of hormones, and not enough ways to work off their energy."
"Do they keep you pretty busy?"
"Mostly it's just minor stuff. Cramping, emotional outbursts, minor injuries. Some of them are on medication and I'm supposed to monitor that they're taking it. Occasionally there's something more serious, but most of the time it's quiet."
"When do you think Miss Vallon would be able to talk?"
"I'd give her the afternoon to rest and compose herself. I'm sure if you spoke to her then it would be all right." She taps her pen against her lips and looks at you thoughtfully, a smile flickering on her lips.
"What is it Ms. Wulf?" you ask, cocking your head curiously.
"Oh nothing. I'm being silly. I had heard stories, well you know how young girls gossip."
"Ah. Is this the savage redskin rumour?"
She blushes deeply, obviously embarrassed. "I'm sorry Dean, I shouldn't have said anything."
"I've grown used to it," you shrug. "It only irritates me enough to haul out my scalping knife about once a week."
"Oh!" she squeaks, then laughs. "You're making a joke. I'm bad with jokes. One of my failings."
"We all have them," you smile. "One of mine is being persistent. Please let Miss Vallon know that I'd like to speak to her when she's up to it."
"I will. And perhaps you can have coffee with me some time. By way of me making apology for my tactlessness earlier." She steps closer and puts a hand on your arm. "I'm very sorry if I caused offense, that's the last thing I intended." She looks up to your face with a contrite but very appealing smile as she squeezes your arm.
"Be happy to," you smile back at her.
"Oh good," she says happily. "I thought I'd made a fool of myself and made you angry with me. I'm not used to talking to men...I mean...talking to men here....at school....Oh God I'm doing it again!" She blushes deeply as she struggles for words.
You pat her hand reassuringly. "It's alright. I'm not offended, and you haven't made a fool of yourself. Well not yet anyway," you chuckle, making her blush deepen.
"I'm just so awkward," she says. "I'm so sorry, Dean Hawkfeather." She leaves her hand on your arm and you make no effort to remove yours, the two of you standing close together as you speak.
"How long have you been here?" you ask.
"At the school? Three years. I finished nursing school and had trouble finding full time work and this came up. It's not really why I wanted to be a nurse, but it pays very well. I'm hoping to get on with a hospital in New York or Boston, but until then I'll make do here."
"It must be kind of dull for you. Where do you live?"
"I have a room next door. And yes, it can be dull, but I usually manage to get away every second weekend."
"No boyfriend?"
"Not at the moment," she blushes, then adds with a teasing flirt. "Why, are you interested?" She blushes deeper, as if embarrassed by her sudden boldness. "Oh God there I go again! You must think I'm an idiot!"
"I don't think you're an idiot," you chuckle, squeezing her hand.
"Seriously, every time I talk to a handsome man I turn into a silly girl. I'm such ditz!"
"Don't worry about it Ms. Wulf,"
"Madison. Call me Madison. Now let me finish writing up Chanel's file. And thanks for being so sweet. And for saying you'll have coffee with me." She blushes again and steps back, her eyes filled with a mixture of emotions.
"My pleasure," you smile. "And lets have coffee this afternoon. After the orientation meeting?"
"Yes...sure...yes....that would be fine," she stammers as you step back and open the door. In the hallway you ignore the clusters of students as you stride to your office, smiling at the exchange with the pretty nurse and finding it amusing the she acts like a blushing schoolgirl when most of the schoolgirls you've encountered so far act like brazen harlots. You decide to forego lunch. You're not hungry, but you could really use a little peace and quiet.
When you step into your office, you can see that peace and quiet is one thing you're not going to get. Lyndsey White is there, leaning against your desk, her tie loosened and several buttons of her shirt open to display the swell of her ripe teen breasts.
What does she want?
