Chapter 21 by Bengates
Is Lilly able to track Charity?
No… but secrets are still within grasp
I made it to the door, then the end of the hall, then… she was just gone. The hallways in both directions were at least thirty feet long before any door came in sight, there was no way she could have moved fast enough to get out of sight already! Not without making some noise to follow.
But the halls were silent, and she was gone.
I moved back to the room, quietly, anger boiling in my blood. How could she have gotten away! After everything I’d learned, I was so close to giving her a taste of her own medicine and now she’d slipped away. Any attempt to hunt her down in the many corridors of the labyrinthine abbey was pointless and would only end in me being caught out and many questions asked about my lack of attire, I was naked after all.
I left the bedroom door open just a crack, just as Charity had left it.
As I went back towards the bed I thought I saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye. It was huge, covered in fur, and had yellow glowing eyes. I blinked, turning my head, but there was nothing but the glow of the yellow moon from the window, just a shadow. I sighed, like Charity, out of reach.
It was then that I noticed something shiny poking out from under Charity’s bunk.
Curious, I stood in my bunk and lifted her straw mattress with one hand revealing a small, leather journal. Her journal!
I flipped to the last entry.
“I used it again last night, Goddess, I’m damned for sure, but it feels so good. I got it all the way in this time, and the silent movement spell Sister Goldeen taught me hid the amazing ruckus I must have made because Lilly didn’t even wake up. I feel like such a hypocrite, staring at her peaceful form while I get myself off. Goddess… what’s wrong with me… I’ve got to get rid of this evil wicked thing…”
I moved my eyes down the page, the entry had been from yesterday but there was another from… tonight! My eyes ate up the words hungrily.
“Lilly confessed, Goddess… I’m such a failure. She’s been a servant girl here since she was five and mercy knows she doesn’t have what it takes to be a Sister, much less a warrior.”
I bristled and grit my teeth.
“But she did what I can’t bring myself to do, confess, stop… Goddess… she was sitting there, naked, on the bed… I risked fingering myself a little just standing in the doorway, staring at her supple form, imagining what it would be like to… Goddess… I’ve got to go get it… I know I promised myself, only once a week, but I need it, NOW!”
What does Charity need so much?
