Chapter 33

Is the night uneventful?
No, you were followed
Some time later you are roused by the far off snapping of a branch and you sit up wearily. The fire lies in embers, its faint light just enough to see Indra sound asleep, laid out next to you. Your first response is that of love, she had treated you so kindly... which immediately made your stomach flip over and you were struck by a queasiness that almost made you vomit. Right. Demon child. Apparently doesn't react well to love. Lets try lust. You mentally undress Indra, softly running a hand down her side, and your stomach settles down. She sighs contentedly in her sleep as you trace the thin strip of skin showing between her pants and shirt, delighting in the bumpy texture of her goosebumps.
A second branch snaps, this one much closer, and you turn your attention to the surrounding darkness. Try as you might, you couldn't see anything. But you could feel it. Something wasn't right. Confirming your fears, Aegis whinnies and stamps the ground nervously. Indra blearily opens her eyes and you slowly reach for your packs, preparing to bolt. Realizing something is amiss, the witch follows your lead and gathers her gear, rising to her feet. The night is perfectly still. The silence presses on your ears, broken only by the faint whispering of the wind over the tops of the trees.
Thhp! Something whistles past your ear and you bolt for Aegis, Indra hot on your heels, vaulting up onto the startled horse and kicking off into the darkness. Thhp! Thhp! Thhp! More objects whistle past, some landing with solid thunks in the surrounding tree trunks. You don't even try to guide the warhorse, somehow he's maintaining a full gallop without running into anything and you are immensely grateful he waited for you both to mount up. Snaps and crashes echo in the woods behind you but gradually recede into the distance as Aegis speeds through the night.
The warhorse slows, exhausted from his sprint, and you come to a halt in a clearing. Breathing heavily, despite not having exerted yourself in any way other than holding on, you survey your surroundings. Spotty cloud cover allows some moonlight through and you can make out a verdant glade ringed by ancient trees, old and gnarled. You take a few shaky breaths and slump against Indra for support, "You alright?"
"Mmhm..." She answers breathlessly. That was close, you needed to keep... "Um. Indra?" The witch nuzzled against your neck, nipping at your skin with her teeth, "Hm?"
"What are you doing?" Her arms slid around your waist, moving up your stomach and drawing your shirt with it. Without thinking your hands move to hers, drawing her palms up to your breasts. You really wanted this... but not now! "Indra, I'm flattered. I'm really happy you feel like this but... I-I don't think this is really the time...!?"
"Shhhsh..." You gasped as she nibbled at your earlobe, elegant fingers finding your nipples under your shirt and rolling them deftly. "Oh Sabine... it's been sooo long..." With a supreme effort of will you dismount and pull Indra down with you. She goes straight for your lips, bowling you over with her larger size and drawing you into the most passionate kiss you'd ever experienced (at least in the real world). You don't offer much resistance, taking the opportunity to pat her down. You weren't sure what you were expecting to find but several dart-like stingers are embedded in her back. Demons. They were no doubt pumping lust-toxin into her blood, filling her with desire and clouding her judgment. Maybe you could save a few for later...
Focus. Focus Sabine. We can make plans for Indra when we aren't running from demons. It takes a lot of muscle but you're able to wriggle your way out from under the **** witch, who seems quite drunk with lust, pawing needfully at your pants and almost tearing your shirt as you attempt to drag her to a more secluded spot. Aegis, to his credit, follows noiselessly other than his heavy breathing. He was being a hell of a lot more useful than Indra at the moment, nudging the whining witch along with his nose.
In the darkness you only notice the tall figure when you run into it, bouncing off as though it were made of wood. Stumbling backward you grasp desperately for your blade, "Be calm sister. I mean you no harm." The voice is calm but seems to echo across the glade, coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once. It takes you several long moments before you piece together what is happening and in that time the sky clears, revealing a woman, naked save for the leaves braided into her hair. Or maybe they were her hair. She was tall, at least for a human woman, and her features were severe while remaining incredibly beautiful. Her figure was svelte, not unlike your own, though you doubt your skin was ever so flawless.
"A Dryad?"
The nature spirit raises an eyebrow, "Indeed, I am what that which you call me. What are you doing in my grove? And why is the Practitioner..." she paused as Indra clawed at her own shirt, mauling her breasts through the fabric and moaning wantonly, "... indisposed?"
"We uh... You've met before?" The dryad nodded once. "Ok... we were uh... attacked by demons a-" The spirit stiffened, casting her gaze about the wood before settling on a point back the way you came, narrowing her eyes.
"Evil has entered my wood."
You were pretty sure that was a statement, not a question, so you remain silent. The woman seemed to grow even taller, her flesh creaking like the surrounding wood as she turned to face the threat, "I will purge it." There was such ****, such conviction behind the words that for a moment you feel the once-familiar presence of a deity and the holy sword seems to hum on your back. The dryad spins and walks directly into the nearest tree, vanishing from sight, and the night is quiet.
You glance at Indra, who paints a pitiful picture on the ground, writhing and groping herself as **** groans escape her lips. There wasn't much you could do, the venom was inside her, though you suppose removing the stingers would be a step in the right direction. Far away in the forest you hear a high-pitched whistling that hurts your ears despite the distance and the deep groaning of wood to accompany it. You wonder who would win? A day ago you would have had utter faith the dryad would strike the demons from this plane of existence, possibly from existence entirely. But the Sabine from a day ago was gone, just like that dryad might be in a few minutes. Who knew how many demons were actually out there. If nothing else, the battle should give you the chance to escape. Maybe have a little fun with Indra along the way...
