Chapter 11
by Manbear
Did you go too far?
No, it's all good
“I'm sorry.” You stammer but Sandra shakes her head and smiles shyly as she assures you that everything's OK.
“I knew that that's what he was going to do, but ... um, hearing you spell it out like that ... especially the last thing,” a deep breath lifts her breasts dangerously in her tight t-shirt, “well, it was pretty intense.” You immediately regret adding in that last sentence. For the night guard to finger his captive to an orgasm is a particularly nasty thing to do. It is one thing for a man to **** a innocent young woman, but when that person delights in making the victim feel pleasure and shame from it - it takes the act to a whole new level of evil.
“I shoudn't h-”
“Stop, Stephen.” Sandra cuts you off firmly. “You didn't do anything wrong, so don't apologize. I'm a grown woman, if you had said anything else it would have ruined the story.” In a way she's right, but this is a good example of why you try to keep the game PG.
“OK, good then.” You return to your normal GM voice. “So Rae talks to Lady Bryana for over an hour and learns all about the awful things that the guard does.” You pause for a second wondering if you should even say this next bit that pops into your head, but decide that it might put at least one fear to rest. “As Lady Bryana gets more comfortable talking to you about her experience, she explains why the night-guard has his job. It's because his penis is all but cut off from a slash that left an ugly scar on his thigh and a ragged stump where his member once hung.” Sandra's reaction is immediate.
“That's disgusting.” You shrug casually, not disagreeing with her as she considers this final bit of information. “It does explain why the man is so vile towards his prisoners.”
“So, Miss Morelli,” you pause for effect, “I'd like to hear your plan for freeing a nearly naked noblewoman from a locked cell in the hold of a slaver-ship miles out at sea.”
“I'm going to meditate/pray for the rest of the afternoon.” She tells you as she reaches for her notebook. Instead of the standard character sheet that all you other players use, Sandra took the time to copy over all the information into a thin leather bound journal in a nearly perfect old-fashioned script. “I want to memorize two Command spells, a Cure Light Wounds and a Cause Fear; for my second level spell I'd like a Speak with Animals. You nod silently starting to make sense of what she is planning.
“Cause Fear isn't usually something that a Lawful Good cleric would use,” you tell her, “but under the circumstances I think it would be OK.” The cunning smile on Sandra's face reminds you to never get on this seemingly sweet young woman's bad side.
“Good, can I ask about you something about spell casting for clerics?” In the conversation that follows you agree that to recipient of the Command spell just needs to hear the word and does not need to see the spell caster and that it would be possible to fool someone into thinking that someone other than Rae had cast the spell.
“I don't see how that solves your problem, though. even if you command the guard to sleep it only lasts for about a minute, and he keeps the key to the cells on his belt.” You also remind the novice player that even if Lady Bryana is freed, the ship has only a limited amount of places to hide and that you are currently three days out from port. You don't feel at all bad about helping point out the flaw's in her plan - with Rae's wisdom she shouldn't be making any obvious mistakes.
“I know,” Sandra's voice is suddenly low and breathy, “That's why Lady Bryana, and maybe Rae too are going to have to put up with the night guard for two more awful nights.” You should have realized that Sandra had considered this. In many ways it makes sense that she is role-playing a character that is wise, good and beautiful although at times it makes it hard to separate the two in your mind. “Oh and I want to save out some of my food, when dinner comes - I want to have something to bribe a rat with when I cast my Speak with Animals.”
“I think I'm ready.” You tell her as you reach for your copies of your Players Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide let me just read up on Speak with Animals I don't want to make any other bad mistakes tonight.” Sandra deliberately closes her journal and gracefully climbs to her feet.
“Perfect, that will give me a chance to use the bathroom before we get started.” You watch her swaying walk as she disappears down the hallway before turning your attention to the notes and descriptions about Sandra's list of spells. At first you don't notice how long your player is missing from the table but it must be more than a couple minutes. You give her another minute and she still doesn't return and you can't help wonder what is taking her so long. As you wait, you are more than a little tempted to look through the notes she put into her book to get a better understanding of what she is thinking ... not to mention the dice bag that still holds its mysteries but that now is no longer is knotted shut.
What do you do as you wait?
