Chapter 11
Should I keep Jade aware of what I'm doing to her?
No, Change Her Whole View of Things
Making her pay me back in the way I had planned was going to be a significant life change for her. The thought of her mind still knowing, every day, of the way I was forcing her to be something else, it was almost too sadistic to imagine. She would be like a Stepford wife who was still herself on the inside. I couldn't do that to anyone, not even Jade. She would go crazy.
No, I wanted her to think this was her idea, in a way.
I joined Jade on the couch. She put down her phone an looked at me questioningly.
“Jade,” I said, “I was really hurt by what you did back then. I was hurt in a lot of ways.”
“Well, I kinda think you need to get over it,” she replied, dismissively.
OK, time to work with the power I have. “Jade, you should feel sorry for what you did. Like, really sorry. And you should want to do anything and everything you can to make up for it.”
I could see her expression softening. She sighed. “You're right,” she finally admitted. “I screwed you over real bad. I'm really sorry, Ron. I promise I'll make it up to you.”
“Thank you, Jade. How do you plan to make it up to me?”
“Well, your part of the contract was 50%, and we made-”
“No, no, no, no,” I interrupted. “Don't you understand? Losing that contract wasn't just about my share of the money.” She looked at me quizzically. I continued, “I could have... would have invested that money. It would have earned 5 or 10 times that amount by now.” An exaggeration, yes, but my point was made. Jade seemed to be catching on. “Not only that,” I added, “but it meant my business grew slower, since I didn't have the capital I needed to grow. And I didn't get the professional recognition and connections you did from that job.”
Jade started to show deeper sorrow as I explained. “So... what does that add up to?” she asked.
“It's not something anyone can put a price on,” I told her. “Basically, if you think about it, everything you got since then, plus interest, should be mine, right?”
“I don't think that-”
“You trust me on this,” I ordered her.
“Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I shouldn't have anything, and you should have it all.” She was speaking slowly and morosely by now. It seemed like true regret. Now that she had taken the bait, I continued.
“But there's still more,” I said sadly.
“More?”
“Yeah. There's Lynette.”
“Who? Oh... right. The girl.”
“Yes, the girl I was seeing. The one you scared away because you were jealous.”
“I'm so sorry about that, Ron. I wish I could go back and... you know...”
“But you can't. No one can,” I said, trying to compel some tears to my eyes. It didn't work, but hopefully I sold the sincerity of my despair. “We were really getting alone well,” I said. “We were planning a future together. And now I've lost that, too.” Slight exaggeration, but close enough.
“Oh, God,” Jade whispered.
“Relationally, I haven't really recovered from that, either,” I lied. “I haven't been able to have a relationship since Lynette ghosted me. I didn't know why she just left like that and stopped taking my calls. I thought there was something wrong with me. I killed my self-esteem.”
“Shit, Ron, I'm so sorry. I had no idea. I... I really messed things up for you, didn't I?”
I nodded, covering my face with my hands as if hiding tears.
“I really want to make things up to you,” Jade said.
“Well, I think you should,” I answered. “But I'm not sure how. How can you make up that level of loss – financial and... and relational?” As I said that, I was standing up. “Look, Jade, I'm... I'm really wiped out. I'm gonna head to bed. Why don't you stay here and think about how you can pay me back for all that I lost because of you. Let me know what you think of”
I hoped that was enough. I hoped that would set her on the path I wanted. I excused myself and went to my bedroom. Jade stayed on the couch, looking thoughtfully off into space.
*****
A little while later, I was in bed, looking at my phone. I was searching through the settings and found that, because I had “matched” (i.e. “captured”) more than 10 women now – my total was at 12 – I had new perks. I learned I could set the message that my new “matches” received. After some thought, I rewrote the original message (a generic greeting informing them that they belonged to me) to forbid any attempt to harm me, escape me, communicate about the app, or anything like that. It even let me send the message to all my current matches. I wondered what might have happened if I hadn't done that. Jade seemed to know right after we matched that something was wrong. What if someone else felt that way and acted on it? I shuddered at the thought.
Just as I was starting to browse the profiles of my future harem, Jade knocked lightly on my door.
“Ron, may I come in?” she asked softly.
“Sure,” I answered, sitting up straight and adjusting my half-hard cock to be less noticeable.
Jade came in and sat at the foot of my bed. “So I've been thinking a lot,” she began, brushing some hair away from her face and tucking it behind her ear. “I know I have to make up to you all that I owe you. Financially... you're right. Everything I have is rightfully yours. I... I guess I should transfer... like, my savings to you? And my apartment? Does that seem fair?” She looked to me for a response.
“Well,” I shrugged, “I guess that's a start. We can look at numbers and talk details later. Is that all?”
Jade looked away and sighed. “No, that's... that's not all. Finances are easy to figure out. Money can... can be replaced. But I can't replace what you lost in Lynette. I thought about reaching out to her and telling her the truth but...”
I raised my eyebrow, waiting for her to continue. I hadn't considered that option. Jade sighed, “But according her social media she's happily married now. She's even pregnant." I winced. “So that's not an option.”
“Yeah, definitely not,” I agreed.
“So I owe you... I guess... a relationship?” Jade said. “I mean, you said you lost a lot of self-esteem and stuff, and you haven't been able to really have a relationship since then, so, I was thinking, how can I pay you what I owe in that area?” She paused.
“Yeah?” I prodded.
“Well, what if...”
What if what?
