“Goodness! Hello, class!” Nevermind. You spoke too soon. That’s a familiar face. Ms. Delilah floats into the room, her head twitching like a bird. So, she’s a secretary and Calculus teacher?

“Beautiful weather today, no?” she says, as she grabs a piece of chalk and writes page numbers on the board. A few students groan and open their textbooks, turning to the relevant pages.

“Calculus,” Ms. Delilah says, spinning around, “where functions flit like hummingbirds, limits chase like wolves at the moon, and derivatives unleash the very secrets of change itself!”

No one moves a muscle. There’s a cough across the room. Ms. Delilah looks across her students with a manic smile. Then she straightens her skirt, and says, “Page 162… yes…”

She continues, twitching. “Imagine this. Imagine the function,” she says, writing f(x) = x^2 on the chalkboard, “which represents the area of a square with side length x. So, we can ask…”

Too high. Too overwhelmed with information. Too many numbers and formulae. You feel yourself fading from the class. And of course, that’s when you feel your phone vibrate in your pocket.
