New Companions: Sylvara & Elrohalion

As she walked, she saw a faint light, flickering around the one of the corners of the cave. She froze, unsure how to what to do. As she stood frozen, the light grew stronger. Maya realized it was too late to hide. Her grip on the mace tightened.

She could hear footsteps approaching. A figure appeared around the corner. It was a tall lean elf dressed in elaborate robes, behind him, carrying the torch, was a blonde woman in chainmail armor.

The elf's eyes met Maya's, and he gave a sudden scream, his shrill voice echoing through the cave. The woman behind him stepped forward, suddenly poised for a fight, only to immediately relax as she took in the sight of Maya.

Then, the woman's expression softened, and she took a step forward, her hand extended, "Sylvara Pureblade, at your service," she said.

Maya cautiously reached out to shake Sylvara's hand. The elf, still visibly shaken, took a step to stay by Sylvana's side. He eyed Maya up and down. " This is Elrohalion, we've out from Roschar in pursuit of justice" Sylvara said, introducing her companion.

Maya looked at Elrohalion, who seemed to be regaining his composure. He gave her a curt nod, his eyes still wary.

"We've been tracking a criminal, a rogue and a thief," Sylvara continued. "We believe he's been making his way through these caves, though I admit, he's given us the slip more than once."

"He wouldn't happen to be a half-elf, brown hair, mischievous smile?" Maya asked.

Sylvara's eyes widened in surprise, "Yes, that's him! You've seen him?"

Maya nodded, her grip tightening on her mace. "He was here, I healed him, he camped with me last night, robbed me this morning.”

Sylvara's eyes narrowed, "I see." she said. "We shall make him pay for his crimes."

"Please, I need your help. I've been down in these caves for days, and I have no idea how to get out. I'm not a fighter like you two, I'm just a servant, and, I suppose now, a cleric."

Sylvara's expression softened, and she nodded. "We'll help you, Maya. But, we cannot break from our mission."

Elrohalion, still wary of Maya, nodded in agreement. "It's the right thing to do."

Maya felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Thank you.”

“Anyway,” Elrohalion began “I believe we are not deep, the two of us have only spent open night in these caves, and, if I’m correct about our navigation, well, we should be back under the stars tonight.

Sylvara and Elrohalion led the way, and together the three pressed on.

The half-elf, it seemed, was named Rowan, and Sylvara was chasing him because he had stolen an artifact from the Roschar vaults. Sylvara didn’t know it’s nature, but, he had taken it through Glassne into these wild lands with Sylvara and Elrohalion closing in the whole way. They were confident Rowan was working with someone, but didn’t know the who, or the why. It didn’t matter to Sylvara it seemed, he was a thief and a criminal, and that was all there was to it.

Sylvara was a paladin, or was working on becoming one. She hadn’t yet taken her oaths. Elothir, the dawnbringer, was her god, and it was clear even in the short time Maya had known her, that Sylvara was extremely devout.

Elrohalion was a wizard, a young mage and recent graduate of the collegium. He seemed shockingly graceful as he navigate the caves in his wizard’s robes, clearly having spent some time in the outdoors, perhaps before his studies.

The other thing that was clear to Maya, though it didn’t seem clear to Sylvara, was that Elohalion was smitten with her. It was clear in the way his gaze lingered on Sylvara, how he looked for her reaction each time he talked. Perhaps it was the powers of Seran, but, Maya was positive that Elrohalion only had eyes for Sylvara.

Sylvara mostly seemed oblivious. May thought it might be her way of blowing things off, or playing it cool.

He didn’t have a chance, Maya thought. He must know that.

Paladins of Elothir took vows of chastity.

They emerged from the caves at dusk, the twilight bathing the valleys below in long shadows. They were still on Rowan’s trail, so Elohalion thought.

Before leaving, she decided to do what she could to move things along between the two, making a suggestive gesture towards Sylvara. She just tilted her head, clearly not understanding or choosing to ignore the lewd gesture. Maya tried again, and, again got no response.

Author's note: I meant to use this as a springboard to start a story or campaign, but have largely lost the interest, and this story likely dies here. Figured might as well publish the bit that was written though before moving on.
