Chapter 104 by frogogre1

The Amazons were once again in the walls in a brutal battle. The defenders poured arrows and javelins into the invaders. It was like rain was falling with how much they fired, but it seemed barely to slow them. They brought forth the catapults, firing boulders after Boulder into the invaders. It did not cause the casualties they had hoped it would. Though the boulders did push them back as the large rocks bounced and rolled into the enemy.

The battle, though, as it went on, was turning against the Amazons; every moment of the melee upon the outer wall was getting harder for all the Amazons involved. It was due to the fact that as the invaders came up from the beach, they began to spread out along the wall, causing more and more Amazons to spread out along the wall's length to hold it. It did not help; they could not count on their Pegasus and hypogryphs to win the skies.

As before, there were flyers among the invaders, though this time they were in far greater numbers. There were jellyfish mixed with a dozen crab claws and flying fish with more razor-sharp mouths than scales. These were only a few monsters the pegis and hypogryphs were locked in combat with. The red-headed Amazon Artemis had led manticores in a counter-charge, hoping to get space for her fellow Amazons on the wall so they could get the moments' rest they desperately needed.

Sadly this time, Mediterra was here and leading, so Artemis was quickly surrounded and her manticores killed. The last anyone saw of Artemis was her desperate fighting against the tentacles and crab claws dragging her away. Then to add to their misery Klarion took the field sending blast of chaos energy into the walls causing explosion and holes in the outer wall. Philippus had to gather who she could and form shield walls at the breaches.

Philippus was forced to shout again and again. "Hold sisters for the gods, for your sisters, for Themyscira!" She roared desperate to keep the morale up for her women but it was becoming hopeless as they fought for hours and no high morale could make their hunger and thirst go away nor could it stop the strain in their hands that made it harder for them to hold their weapons.

The true problem for the Amazons is usually in a siege such as this; there is a back-and-forth. The attackers try something then defended try something both sides stop for a bit to recover and figure who's dead or hurt. Once that's done, both sides try again; this cycle repeats until the sun sets, then the cycle stops till the next day. This wasn't the case here; there were no lulls in the fighting.

There was no stopping to count the dead or working on a new strategy. No, instead they charged again and never stopped until they died. Then the invaders would get back with a few more additions and attack again if they were lucky. If not, the monsters had been cut to pieces, and those pieces would form new monsters. Which means the invaders' numbers had actually increased from when the fight started.

Hippolyta watched from a tower set up above the walls that was supposed to give commanders and lookout a good view of the battfield and it did its job well. Though what it allowed her to see was to her dismay. As Hypogryph and Pegasus were overwhelmed and brought the ground. As sister after sister was taken by the monsters, their screams of rage and pain echoed in her ears. She had lost track of her generals having sent them to try and help struggling points.

Though in the end it was clear to her the battle for the outer walls was lost. Now their only hope was to retreat to the palace once more. Hoping that having a much smaller area to defend would help them last longer. She gave the order, and the horn was blown. She personally led her own royal guard into the fray and pushed back the enemy, allowing the others to disengage and retreat. So there she was, desperately swinging her blade and blocking with her shield as an abomination after another abomination from the sea came at her and her royal guards as they were treated by a slow, painful pace.

They were about halfway to the palace when the trick was played. An explosion sounded as from the earth came eel-like creatures; they burst forth between the different groups of Amazon soldiers, cutting them off from each other and the palace. Hippolyta knew in that moment it was over. So she roared her defiance. " For the gods and Themyscira." She shouted out as she charged to meet the foe, her royal guards following her into battle.

Then, out of nowhere, the eels all stopped freezing in motion, as well as the sea abominations following after them. Then without a word they all retreated towards the sea. The Amazons watched shocked as their conquerors left them unconquered. The last one to flee was a human boy flying in the sky, sending blast after blast of his evil magic at them as he left the field.

There should have been cheers that the battle was over that they still controlled Themyscira. Hippolyta looked around at the destroyed building and burnt streets at the holes in the outer walls. She swe the Amazons wounded and knew that many were gone taken from them by the invaders. Their invaders had fled by they hadn't won.
