Chapter 13 by ShadeWriter ShadeWriter

Where do they go?

Nearby Park

"Sooooo…,” Mya started as she walked around in a small circle. She really didn’t know how to go about this. She was so heated and ready to give Jenny one heck of a talking to, but the police scene had kinda taken the wind out from her. Mya needed to build that momentum back up before she could get rolling.

The pair had driven till they found an out of the way place which was a small left over playground and park. Everything was old and rusted over, left behind for new attractions or tech. Few people would be around this place in the middle of the day. Not the perfect place for this kind of talk but it would do.

“This has been..., awkward huh.” Jenny offered as she sat on a swing that groaned from her weight. Her current model body didn’t weigh the several hundred or thousand of pounds she used to. The swing set was just really old and not maintained. But Jenny didn’t want to stand for this so she used some of her internal thrusters to lessen the weight on the equipment, "Haven't given you the best impression huh?"

“Eh, no. Same time though you seemed nice enough at breakfast and before you found that note. And the note was something that would set a person off anyway. I was wondering how you got roped into this.” Mya offered as a way of starting off, “I just signed up for a dating site myself. I figured you would be beating off guys with a riot stick or something.” The image of Jenny just suplexing unwanted suitors entered her mind.

“No…. most guys didn’t care for me… Well Sheldon did but he was… overbearing? Maybe that’s the word. Nice guy but a little to into me as ‘female machine’. He was better than others that just saw ‘hero girl oh let me hook up with her to be popular’ and they were the worst.” Jenny explained, making a slow attempt to start swinging the the set she sat on. "Most people saw me as weird or just novel... or like a guard dog at best."

“Guess that makes sense.” Mya muttered, scratching her neck and shifting her gaze.

“Maybe I would have used Cupid but…, I wanted to be the one to do it. No, just another ploy by my mom, just another experiment.” Jenny growled, starting to build up speed, the entire swing set starting to shudder from the moving weight, “Was never just good enough to be the hero or her daughter.., no just the robot she has to control, test and replace one day.”

“Jen, listen the way she did it was wrong but I kinda… get it? It was just...” Mya started before Jenny cut back in.

“What you get treating someone like a thing, like just another part? Consistently teasing freedom and yoinking that away with an arranged marriage? You can get that Mya?” She spat, her eyes turning red as she was going really hard and fast on the swing. At the rate she was going, Jenny would probably break the entire swing set.

“I get why you’re mad too, but getting mad at me won’t do much besides ticking me off. And last thing we need it getting tempers flared up.” Mya answered with a fold of her arms, "So how about you just CALM down and stop venting at me like I'm at fault here!"

With a jump from the swing the robot landed next to Mya, crunching into the sand with her feet and pulling herself up as tall as possible before looking at the human in her eyes. “Then. Who CAN I? You’re here, you’re part of the problem!”

“And if it wasn’t me you’d be getting ticked at someone else and still be no closer to your actual eff’n goal!” Mya returned, not backing down. In fact she stepped closer to the robot, glaring back into her eyes. The two stared at each other as Jenny started to grind her teeth.

“If you're so smart about this, what would that would be?” Jenny asked, her hands balling into fists. The metal of her hands creaking together with how hard she was clenching them.

“Giving your mom a piece of your mind.” Mya just plainly said with no hesitation.

"Wait.. what?” Jenny's processor seemed to stall. She replayed what Mya said over and over again, trying to make sense of what the woman had just stated. With the robot off guard, Mya picked this time to go on the 'attack' as a way of making her see sense. At least sense enough to calm down.

“Look you're mad. I get that. Problem isn’t with me or even Cupid, it’s your mom. I’m part of it, I will admit it but not by my own choice. We just happened to be matched up. You could have been matched up with a LOT of different people." Mya flicked her hand to the side in a knowing manner, "Your current problem is more the distrust and betrayal you have with your mom. You wanna be mad at someone and actually do something with it? Be mad at your mom and hold that feeling till you get back to her.” Mya fished as she put a hand on her hip.

“Wait you’d help me like that?” Jenny asked, her eyes widening and losing the red glow to them. Her hands just fell limp at her sides now.

“Look you got a lot to work out with your mom by the sounds of it. Before any anything else, like nullifying this or getting me home, think we should get you two talking.” Mya simply said, a smile on her face, "God knows how much baggage you two have been building up for years, so maybe throw the pair of you in a room and get that settled before you start thinking about weddings and in laws."

“But you said you agreed....” Jenny started stepping forward but Mya stepped up again, getting her face in the robot's.

“I said I get the idea of doing something dumb in the hopes it helps your kid out. Really don’t agree with the way she did it though. But you really think your mom would set you up like this as just ANOTHER test? Well she did but not her science but for you you daft girl!” Mya almost shouted, her own eyes starting to burn with determination to get through to this girl.

“You read the letter right?!?” Jenny started before Mya cut her off with a swift cutting hand motion.

“Yeah. I did and from what it sounded like, you’re the best and brightest thing she ever made! Not to mention, you said it yourself, not a lot of guys were really clicking with you! So why not try to set her baby girl up with someone to take care of her, make sure she’s gonna be alright! Look to me I read that as testing to see if you'd be happier with someone or happier without someone. If this SUPER matchmaker couldn't figure it out, maybe you'd just be happier alone or something. I get the reasoning, I think, behind that.” May said, bluntly laying it out for Jenny. Maybe putting it as bluntly as possible could make the computer mind actually put things in place.

“Now, don’t agree with how she did it though but I can’t see her doing that with like the next model number or something. She did it for You Jen. She wanted to see if you could be happy..., possibly in a world without her.” The mechanic finished, stepping back to give Jenny some room.

“You can’t mean I should thank her for this.” Jenny said, her hands trembling in both anger and unease. Her eyes had less glare in them than before but Mya kept going.

“Pfff, no I don’t. But I can’t tell you HOW to feel other than this. That burning feeling you have? That queasy gut feeling right here?” Mya steped up and poked Jenny in the upper gut, “And that doubt in your heart” she poked at the robot’s chest where a heart would be, “and the twisting ideas you got up here” Mya tapped light at Jenny’s forehead with a knuckle, “All that? Hold on to it. Put it in storage. And when you see your mom again, talk to her to get what answers you can get for those feelings.”

“Just…, remember whatever you’re feeling, your mom is probably gonna be feeling something similar.” Mya finished her little speech. It was true, Jenny's mom probably had her own emtional hang ups over doing this, but dealing with THAT was for later.

Jenny stood there, her electronic brain processing this. This was all just…, a little much for her given the day. She was mad, upset, excited, worried, confused and just a whirl of emotions right now coursing through her head and heart. She didn’t know just what to do, there was no computer logic or technological process Jenny could fall back on here. Instead, she did what just felt right.

Mya found herself being pulled in and hugged tight, not in a romantic or thankful fashion. A hard, needy kind of hold that spoke of needing to grip something. Jenny rested her head on Mya’s shoulder and gave off a small ‘hic’ sound every so often. Mya felt the jumpsuit she wore getting wet, and a pretty high temperature one at that. Jenny’s frustration probably overheated her a tad so whatever she used for tears was hotter than organic version. Mya just stood there, letting Jenny just get it out her system at her own pace. Not one to push it, the mechanic would pat Jenny’s shoulder any time she went for a bit without a noise.

When she recovered enough, Jenny pulled back. Mya could barely tell she had been frustration crying, save for the robot’s eyes being a different kind of red from when she was angry. The human could only wish she had ways of cleaning up that well after her own crying bits.

“Look…. Just….I…” Jenny struggled to get her words out before taking a large breathes, looked at the ground, and put her hands behind her back, “Sorry.”

“It has… been a day.” Mya offered, a hand patting Jenny's shoulder, “You got every right to be mad and upset. I’m just asking you to put it on the back burner till you can use it. I mean, you have a good reason to be upset.” She thumbed at herself with a bit of a smirk, “I’m the dumbass that willingly signed up.”

Jenny stifled a weak snicker. “Sorry I.., just how you delivered that out of no where. I can't help but... ”

“It’s fine. Laugh. It's a release valve for a reason." Mya quipped before scratching the back of her head, "Listen, I’m not terribly happy about this, feel like I got tricked but it’s my own fault. You on the other hand,” Mya patted the robot in the shoulder again, a big hearty one that echoed with the noise, “You have someone to go after that frustration with. So long as we figure out how to get you back home.” Mya said, putting her hands on her hips, and a smile to her face, “So that’s the deal I’m gonna make you. First things first, you and your mom need a face to face talking. And I’m gonna help you do that.”

“Sniff, just… thanks Mya. Means… a lot.” Jenny said, scratching the back of her head shyly before offering the hand. Mya extended her own arm to shake it. Still amazed the human how firm but soft Jenny’s skin was.

“Well look” Mya started as she disengaged from the shake, “I could have just tried to be all logical but you seemed like you needed someone to give you… basically the emotional version of a face slap. Some sort of focus to latch onto. Was worried you might do something crazy with you being wound up tighter than a spring.”

“…okay fair. Kinda needed that. Can we just go home now? Kinda want to just… I dunno…,” Jenny started trying to find the words…, “I think I’m crashing from the emotional roller coaster I’ve been on since getting up…”

“Ain't that the truth! Heh..., Look I’ll heat up some cocoa for you, flick the tv on and we can just chill for the day. I don’t think anything is going to drastically change right now. Or should I break out the good oil?” Mya quipped as she started smile.

“Cocoa. Good oil for date night.” Jenny said with a smirk on her face. There was the joking back and forth coming back. Jenny was settling into her normal self by the sound of it. Girl just needed a day to process things after a good talking to.

“Well aren’t you going to be expensive.” Mya jokingly tossed up her hands, before clapping another slap on Jenny's shoulder, “Let’s just head back home. We can try to figure things out or crash for a day cause We can probably just chill for a day.” Given all the supplies they had, the pair could just sit in the house for a week if they really wanted to.

“That sounds… pretty good. Let’s go.” Jenny said as she headed back to her bike. Mya grinned followed after, mounting her own that was parked next to the robot’s and put her helmet on. Just a chill night of hanging with a new rommie, probably digging out some cheesey movies. Get some games going maybe..., something loud and actiony. Just had to keep Jenny from falling into that emotional quicksand again.

“At least glad it was you.”

“Hmm you say something Jen?” Mya asked. She was in the middle of putting on her helmet and thought the robot had said... something. Jenny however just tapped the side of her head and her metal hair folded around her 'skull' and formed a psudo helmet herself. That was... kinda weird to see but made sense in a weird way.

“No you’re probably hearing stuff.” Jenny answered before revving the bike to life, "Come on! First one back gets to pick out the movie and pizza toppings!" And with that, the robot took off at a brisk pace.

"WAIT CAN YOU EAT.... That girl.... just a whirlwind huh." Mya muttered as she shrugged and followed, rapidly closing the distance. "Well on the bright side, at least she's not going to be boring."

Neither noticed the cameras following the bikes.

When do we catch up with the Pair?
