When do we catch up with the Pair?

Back Home, Hanging Out

After getting back home, the pair had agreed to just take the day off. No Cupid, no marriage, no heroing, no anything; just kick that down the road till tomorrow. Rather it was going to be a day of goofing off and unwinding. Maybe get to know their new roomie too. Mya and Jenny planned to the afternoon binge watching TV and playing some games. The two found they had some similar tastes; favoring action based drama shows along with documentaries.

"Didn't think you'd like this kinda stuff." Mya said as she made herself comfy on the couch. They had set up shop for the day on the ground living room, if only to be closer to the kitchen. While the house had an elevator system, it was just easier to walk to the fridge than take a ride. The ground living room hosted only an entertainment system and a gaming console, while the ones upstairs were more for reading or more active pleasures, like the pool table on the top floor.

Currently Mya was sitting rather lax on one end of the rather fancy 'modern' pallet sofa. Or was it a couch? To Mya it was the same thing but she made herself at home on one side of the L shaped sofa while Jenny fully laid out on the other end, head propped up by several pillows. She was drinking from an oil can with one of those really long straws before she turned her head to look at the mechanic.

"Hmmm?" she let go of the straw with a pop, "What can I not like documentaries?" Jenny asked raising an eyebrow.

"..., Look I'm a gear head. I'm expected to watch stuff like this. I felt it was a little..., unexpected for you to like this too. Or maybe..., okay would it be stereotyping?" Mya started to which Jenny laughed. She had such a big cheerful laugh for a robot.

"It's something I picked up from Mom." Jenny offered as she grabbed the remote and turned the volume up, "Granted her documentaries were always like International Space Station, Robotics, or that genius computer chess thing." Her voice remained cheerful when talking about memories with her mom, a good sign. Seemed Jenny was at least taking Mya's advise of putting those feelings on the back burner. "Of course" the robot continued, "I picked up my own tastes about it. And no, it's not. Maybe. Kinda. Look I haven't been able to really compare notes with other robots. I just know what I like these days."

"Yeah but 'How it's made; Sports cars' isn't something I'd expect you'd like." Mya offered with a node towards the TV. The screen showed off digital reconstructions of high performance vehicles in a show room, being taken apart and reassembled to the onlookers with explanations of each part's purpose. The show girls was a bit tacky though.

"I like speed." Jenny admitted, not realizing that her own eyes tended to land on more the posing girls than the cars, "I'll be honest, there's something about Driving something with that level of speed than... you know..." Jenny raised her feet up off the couch and transformed them into jets engines before reverting back to her laying state.

"Eh... I suppose. Guess it's like Sprinters still getting a thrill out of driving fast cars.... kinda." Mya offered as she picked up her own can to drink. The glass coffee table was just that perfect size and shape to put food and drink on... but she couldn't really kick her feet up. Comfort or function when it came to those it seemed. "Kinda wanted to drive one of those myself. Always saw a few muscle and or drag racers where I lived, and wondered how they felt behind the wheel."

"Speaking of... how'd the cycle feel?" Jenny asked as she started flipping between the few channels that struck them as interesting. The ones both could understand were a few 'history' channels that covered tech closer to their own worlds, or just mechanics/science based shows. Anything else was a mix of future reality shows(both of them hated), movies they didn't really jell with, and several music and pop culture based channels. Like what club was popping or what famous person was hanging around the city that week.

"Felt really good." Mya said with a grin, "Ah it took corners like a dream and it wasn't too loud either. If I wasn't taking the day off I'd probably be in there taking it apart to see how it works." she continued as she leaned forward just a bit to try and see some blurbs down at the bottom of the screen, "That said I don't know if I can put it back together again if I do so." A thought crossed her mind and it showed on her face as she turned to Jenny, "So can I..."

"Don't." Jenny cut her off with a raised finger and a coy glare, "Touch mine. If you want to ruin your own cyber bike go right ahead but keep mine out of it." she said with a grin. Mya just pretend pouted. Jenny just had a small smile on her face as she returned her attention to flicking through channels.

"Alright alright." She muttered, "But until I get better at fixing them, you're on your own then if something goes wrong." Mya turned her attention back to the TV and quickly waved at Jenny. "Hold up go back go back." She told the robot.

Jenny rolled her eyes and flicked back a few channels till Mya confirmed what channel she wanted. It was a news report about some sort of robbery at a gas station. Plenty of shots of the location, cops and the criminals being dragged away but all the blurbs at the bottom were abuzz with social posts about the white/blue figure who had done it. Jenny was caught on camera talking with a few officers and waving to the crowd a few times. The word from the net seemed to be confused as to what she was. Some of the posts below were some sort of the following;

  • "Oi is this some sort of ploy or marketing stunt? Some sort of new movie coming?
  • "Yo, that new security model looks tight, who's it from?!?"
  • "Security? For what, brothels? Where's she keeping her ammo, in those tits or arse?"
  • "You sure she's a robot and not just the most augmented woman ever?"

"Wow...." Jenny muttered as she sat up with a bit of a grin, "Is that really me?" She seemed to have not noticed the little tweets yet.

"Didn't you check yourself out when you washed up earlier?" Mya asked shooting her a look before looking back at the TV. She knew the event would probably make the news but she really didn't process the cameras. Or even mobile devices.., maybe the general populace here used other things or just in a different style. Regardless, hopefully this wouldn't cause a problem for them. Just some weird thing in the weekly news before it got swallowed up by newer stories.

"I did." Jenny answered with a turn of her head to acknowledge Mya, "But it's different to see yourself on screen than in a mirror." Jenny turned back to the tv and quickly filed away some of the text posts down at the bottom before flipping the channel. Mya was about to ask what the heck when Jenny held up a hand and went 'tut tut'. "You're the one that said to take the day off. Hearing about how I saved the day isn't on the agenda." She said with half closed eyes and a knowing smile.

"....fair." Mya grumbled as she leaned back onto the couch, "Not like we can do anything about it now. Still," Mya sighed as she touched her temple with a hand, "Should probably keep a low profile if possible. Last thing we need is for you to be like.... either a new super hero or taken apart before we figure out how to get home."

"Two weeks." Came the answer from her robotic roomie.

"....Eh?" Mya muttered as she sat back up to look at Jenny. The robot tapped the side of her head with a finger and turned to face the mechanic. One of her eyes displayed what looked like a PDF full of files and contracts. The scrolling image stopped as Jenny highlighted a section in red as she gave a shrug.

"Cupid's Wish seems to have given us some sort of inter dimensional teleporter. While we were in the office, I got a bunch of files down loaded to my database. I'm working my way through them." She held up her hands defensively, "Only in like a cliff notes version. I'm not doing deep dives on the info. Just gonna get worked up and annoyed otherwise. But it has a warm up time of two weeks." Her eye seemed to highlight then blow up a bit of the PDF only to display it with a hologram. Mya could make out only bits and pieces due to the technical mumbo jumbo but Jenny seemed to be telling the truth.

"Geeze really?" Mya pinched her nose, realizing that her gran wasn't going to hear from her for that long. Then again, Jenny's mom wasn't going to either. She gave an annoyed sigh as Jenny had the hologram dissipate, "Stuck here for two weeks. Oh boy."

"I know... Vacation!" Jenny said with a grin before Mya glared at her. She folded her arms and had her shoulders put up before saying, "Mya you're the one that told me to just hold that anger till I see my mom. Until then I'm just gonna treat this like a vacation. Besides, from what I saw of the cliff notes of the contract, it's stupid hard to break and more importantly, stuff we don't have access in this world." Jenny tapped the side of her again which made her display eye start googling info, "Unless you want to try and about stealing a space ship."

"Space ship.... you know never mind." Mya muttered, leaning back into the couch. Stuck in this mess for a couple weeks was going to be just so annoying. Maybe they'd have to set up some sort of planned jumps to explain this to family. Jenny's first, cause Gran was smart but probably couldn't help here. "At least Jenny's back to normal, at least normal enough." Mya thought.

Next thing to do would be to try and get to know her more.

But how?
