Chapter 15 by OnePrideBandito16 OnePrideBandito16

Could She Beat You Head to Head?

Nah, I’d Probably Win.

“Probably not, I think I would probably win that.” You answer casually. You don’t want to agitate her and come off as rude or disrespectful, but you also want to show some belief in yourself and give your honest opinion that you would win. She put you in a pretty tough spot with the question in the first place, guessing what answer she wanted to hear from you was not a good way to go, so going the honest route was the right choice.

“Interesting. You’re not gonna go all macho man I think I could beat the heck out of you and you wouldn’t stand a chance?” She asks. You shake your head. “What about all I’d let you win obviously because you’re a girl and all that?” You laugh, it was a possibility but not a serious one in your mind. You’re too competitive for that, regardless of who you were facing.

“I’m just being honest, I’m not trying to come off as rude and arrogant and I’m the best ever, but I’m also competitive and I certainly wouldn’t just let you win and not put in any effort. Even if I did go a bit easier on you than I would in a real game, I wouldn’t just let you win and not try. There’s a mix. I’m sure you’re good, but I also know I’m pretty good too, so I think I’d probably win but you could probably hold your own and not get dominated or anything I would think.” You respond fully. She respects the answer, not presenting much of a counter argument or a fight back, which you consider a win given the situation.

“Interesting, I was kinda thinking you’d at least kinda pick a side. Fair enough, I respect it. Admittedly you are probably faster than me and more explosive and all that stuff, so a shooting contest would probably be a bit more fair than a one on one.” She replies. You smirk at this suggestion, wishing you had a basketball on you now so that you could challenge her right then and there, but you don’t and the basketballs haven’t been brought out yet that you noticed.

“Oh, now a shooting contest? I’m pretty confident that I would win that. If I’m on and we’re just taking open shots, I could go 10 for 10 from anywhere you could hit 9.” You counter giving off a bit more competitiveness this time around. She laughs, but you’re not sure if it’s her competitiveness coming out thinking she can beat you or if it’s her response to you being competitive and her triggering that energy from you.

“So that’s what it took to bring out your competitive energy. Alright, noted. I’m curious now, I thought you’d be more of a passing, playmaker type.” She added. You laugh, and fake a shot on the hoop you’re facing towards as you talk to her. She catches your smile as you watch the imaginary ball you created an image of in your head go right through for a swish.

“Oh, I’m going to have to show you. Nah, I’m a shooter. Yeah I’m a team player and I’ll hit open players and all that, but really I like to have the ball in my hands and putting points on the board. Nothing like it. You can help one teammate by giving them the ball and letting them score, or you can help the entire team by putting points on the scoreboard and getting the win is the way I see it.” You tell her, as she does a scratching emoji with her hand.

“Oh, feisty. Alright, we’ll see how you do in a couple weeks. For now though we should head to the dining hall, want to make sure we get there on time.” Emily suggests as you two both leave together, this time with her getting to the exit first and holding the door open for you, as you thank her.

You continue walking together towards the dining hall, but this time the two of you are just relaxed and calmly quiet, not trying to disturb the peaceful vibes. You look over at her every once in a while, and she the same only she does a better job of hiding it, but there isn’t really a whole lot you feel the need or want to talk to her about specifically at this point, and mostly the same back even if she wouldn’t mind continuing to converse. You both mutually agree unannounced that it’s probably better to just leave things where they’re at for right now and be content and satisfied with how the day has progressed so far.

Eventually you end up getting to the Dining Hall and you have to choose where you want to sit. While you obviously find the Cardinal tables, there’s not a whole lot of people yet taking specific seats and you get there early enough to have a pretty good selection of seating options.

Choices: A- With another player on your basketball team. B- With another player on your football team. C- With a sketchy looking cheerleader. D- You follow Emily still and sit near her again. E- Close to the front with a mixed group of strangers.

Where Do You Sit For The Opening Dinner?
