Chapter 13 by MrLarsBar MrLarsBar

Would he lose?

Nah, Aaron would win

Aaron exhaled and exploded into a sprint. He grabbed the two threatening Shadows by the back of the head and slammed them into the ground. His unexpected attack knocked them out cold.

The Shadows to his left and right swung their sword. Aaron leaped onto the tip of their blades, feet seemingly bringing down no weight, and then kicked the two of them in the head. They were sent sprawling back and the furthest Shadow arrived to strike him down. Before the blade could touch his head, he seized their wrists and stopped the motion of the attack. There was a moment of struggle but Aaron twisted the Shadow's wrist, kicked them in the stomach and finished them off with an uppercut.

The Shadow flew up and crumbled to the earth.

The final two Shadows charged at him, fully recovered from his dazing kicks, but this time came as one. In Aaron's eyes, they were like children from a picture book. So easy to read that he was able backstep from their coordinated strike and lurch forward to punch them in the gut. His fists, balled with immense control and power, made them go limp.

"Phew." Aaron drew back and glanced over at Robina. She was slack-jawed, the long mane of her whip pathetically held in her hand. He relaxed his shoulders and went over to her. "You alright, Miss?" Aaron asked while fixing the button of his cuffs.

"Y-yeah, but who the hell are you?" Robina was somewhat on guard but still open to conversation. Aaron didn't mind. He wasn't staying for long anyway.

"Just a guy passing by." Aaron tightened his tie and straightened his suit. "I have to get going."

"To…?"

"Work," Aaron replied simply.

"W-wait a minute." Robina came up to him. "Hold up. You know who these guys are?"

"Nope," Aaron lied. "Friends of yours?"

"No!" Robina blinked, realizing she was too loud, and glanced at the fallen bodies. "D-did…are they dead?"

"Nope, just knocked out. I don't want **** on my hands."

She looked at him as if he was crazy. "You're in Gotham, my guy. Killing someone is honestly good for your resume. Shows initiative."

Now it was Aaron's time to look at her strangely. "Right. Well, see you later–"

"Hold up." Robina blocked his path. "Listen for a second."

Aaron checked his phone. "I really have to get going, I have work in about fifteen minutes."

"Aight, I'll be brief." She crossed her arms and pompously said, "Join us."

"Us…?"

Robina scoffed. "Haven't you heard? We are Robin!"

Aaron stood silent. A flush crept from her neck all the way to her cheeks.

"L-look." Robina recrossed her arms. "Batman Incorporated hasn't been doing enough. That's why we brought back We Are Robin, to protect the old, backwater streets they forget. But we need strength. My boyfriend–"

Aaron blinked as she cut herself off. The young woman cursed to herself, then continued.

"You remind me of someone I know in terms of fighting. Anyway, here." She brought out a flyer from her pocket. It was an advertisement of some kind proudly declaring: "We're not sidekicks. We're an army! Are you ready?"

"Er, I'll keep your offer in mind."

"Our phone number is there," she said, pointing at the small line of text at the bottom. "You'll need to gain our trust first but if you work enough you'll be able to join us fully."

Aaron blinked twice. "Thanks, I guess."

"As for these guys…" Robina nudged the head of one of the Shadows with her feet. "...I'll call my guys over to fix this mess. You can go."

'It's not like I needed your permission but okay.'

Aaron walked away. He strolled through the streets with a spring in his step. He checked his phone over and over again for directions as well as the time Luckily, he managed to get to work on time with a minute to spare.

How is work?
