Chapter 14 by MrLarsBar MrLarsBar

How is work?

Busy-ish

He swiped in, attended the morning meeting, then headed to his cubicle. Phone calls and emails awaited.

Work was busy. Wayne Technologies had people come and go. Nobody seemed to notice his somewhat ragged suit. Sex with Vicki and a fight against the League of Shadows should have left his business attire completely worn out.

'Now that I think about it, who even enforces the uniform policy? Our supervisor is pretty chill as long as we work and HR is never here.' Aaron shrugged. 'Good for me I guess.'

He drank his third cup of coffee that morning. Holed up in his cubicle with no one watching, he smacked his lips in delight.

His coworkers talked about their hang-overs from last night. Aaron was not involved in their discussion because he was Aaron and he liked to focus on work. He did eavesdrop and laugh to himself when he heard something amusing though.

"Yo, Aaron." It was his supervisor. Anxiety gripped his greeting. "Are you, ah, finished with the confirmation report?"

Aaron nodded. "Mhm. Is there something you need, sir?"

"Well…" His supervisor rubbed the back of his neck. "We need someone to do overtime for our group. Today was supposed to be me but I have a major headache so–"

"No problem, I'll do it."

"Really?" His supervisor brightened up. "Thanks, man! I owe you one!"

"It's alright. I could use the hours."

There wasn't anyone waiting at home and he regularly did overtime on Fridays anyway. Doing it on a Wednesday was no issue either.

'Plus,' he looked down at the empty cup of coffee on his table, 'the coffee machine has been great this past week. I could definitely use more of it.'

When the time came, his supervisor left him a note with a series of instructions. The clock ticked by. Hours passed and it was about ten o'clock. There were only three people besides Aaron on the floor. Two women and one man from different floors. Everybody was silent and did their tasks at their own pace. Keyboards clicking and noses sighing.

Coffee, coffee, coffee. Aaron wasn't afraid to admit he had an addiction. Super sugary and filled to the brim with cream, it was a caffeinated monstrosity.

He smiled to himself as he downed another cup. That was just the way he liked it.

Soon, Aaron was finished. He stretched his arms out and glanced at his peers. Their orders and load varied. He stood up, stretched, grabbed his phone, and headed to the elevator. He could feel their envy burning into his back.

Aaron shoved his hands in his pocket as he waited for the elevator doors to open. He checked his phone, hoping it would turn on, and alas there was a miracle. Less than 5% remained.

The elevator split open and he went right in. Someone was already inside...

Who is inside the elevator?
