Mya approaches

"Mya hey!" I said to the woman who I'd slowly been growing closer to these past few weeks.

"Hey Alice!" She was quick to put on a happy face, the appearance of someone who was not just staring holes into me and the people I was talking to right now.

"What's going on with you? You don't seem all that great." I asked her, calling her out on the way she'd been acting.

"Please Alice, don't worry about it." She replied, dropping the expression she was showing and instead accepting her true emotions.

"Look I know it's shit when someone doesn't give us the attention we deserve." I said to her trying to get to her side.

"You have all the choices you need, you're not one to talk about that!" She answered a bit too harshly.

I realized that this woman was not one to be talked to in the moment, and decided to stay silent instead.

"I... I'm sorry." She said, trying to mend the hurt. "I just... The boys are all taken, and by you white girls what's worse."

That's what it was about.

"It's just wrong. And the biggest example is Jasmin and my Jerome." She said.

"Your Jerome?" I asked.

"He has influence at school, and is black. I'm the co-captain of the cheer team. It just fits."

Jealousy of the highest form, against someone who was my friend long before she was. And now it was all being revealed.

"Mya you're putting me in a really hard spot." I said to her, "Jasmin's my friend and she's really into her boyfriend."

"They're not partners. Not exclusive at least." She answered me, "So at least for tonight let me have him?"

"Have him?"

"If you have the chance, could you please let him free for me? You know it's the right thing to do." She was all but imploring me.

"I'll make sure it's all worth it for you. I'll owe you one."

Having that woman indebted to me could actually be a positive thing...
