Who do we follow?

Mya Sleeps, Jenny Heroing

Mya gave a little stretch as she started to strip down to her underwear. Her half bed was looking pretty good and as she fell into the mattress and blankets, she was starting to feel how tired she was. Lot of stress today and emotional work; geeze she was burnt out mentally. A good long sleep would be just what she needed. Before she really got comfy her mind did catch up to her body. 'Wait...., we have a roommate now' it said.

She got untangled from her blankets and stood up. Looking at her thong and bra that barely covered her; well, that was probably a bad look. Making a quick dash to her dresser she started to dig through it, looking for anything that was better sleep clothes. If Cupid had taken everything she had from that little apartment, maybe it would be here. Gran gran gave her something last Christmas right?

"Ah found it!"

She took out a black box wrapped with a red ribbon. It was a gift after one rather cold winter, a set of warm PJs. Only with a little more 'MMPFH' to it. Gran didn't really 'get' Mya's life style choices or styles but she could respect them to a point. Normal flannel PJs were something she tended to balk at so rather than get her something like that, Gran picked out something nicer.

Posing in front of a mirror, she took in the deep red strapless nightgown. It was opaque and would have covered her legs down to her shins. It even came with a bra and bottom shorts to have more coverage just in case. Gran must have thought she'd look a little cute but alluring in it. It was just with the changes by Cupid; the skirt ended just above her knees and the under garments were closer to gym wear now. Hell her chest was threatening to spill out of the top part.

Still, it was probably the most covering thing she had unless she wanted to sleep in a jacket and pants.

“Cute outfit.”

Mya’s eyes closed as she took a breath before turning to see Jenny. She gave a wave and then gestured towards her outfit.

“Well, I used to live alone so most my clothing is for… not company.” She reached over and patted the dresser before she walked over to the sliced off bed side she picked out, “I’d rather not make things too awkward. So you get me wearing this instead of just like bra and panties.”

“Thanks. I… kinda don’t have anything like that… Wait.” She held up a hand that started to glow.

Before Mya could say a word, a flash of light erupted from Jenny’s hand. Only it wasn’t a blast like she’d been expecting. Rather it was a scanning light of some kind, moving over her body and focusing on her clothes. Second time in one day she’d been scanned like this. Was her life just taking place in an airport now? Eventually the scan finished, going by pretty quick honestly.

“There we go. Thanks for that.” Jenny said, flicking her wrist back down while the other one came up and expanding into different tools that she flipped though.

“What did you do…” but a held up finger stopped the question.

She watched as Jenny walked into the closet and closed it. A few seconds later came a few different mechanical noises and a flash of light from under the door. It was followed by a few sets of noises and flashes before a cry of ‘Got it!’was heard and the door opened.

“Whatcha think?” She asked as she spun around as she walked out.

Mya didn’t know what to think as she took in the sight.

Considering Jenny now wore a copy of the nightgown she was wearing, it was off putting to say the least. The robot made a few poses and even a few more spins to show off the back. It really did look like what Gran Gran had sent her. The only real difference was Jenny’s was strapless, having ties around the back to keep it together, and was a cyan color in place of red. But it clung to her body just as much as it did to Mya's.

“How?” She asked when her voice came back.

“I scanned your dress and made a Nanite weaved copy of it. Took me a few tries to get it right but should work for a few nights.” She giggled as she spun a bit more, enjoying the feel of the gown's hem moving about as she did, “It’s pretty breezy.”

“Alright alright.” The explanation made sense given her abilities. It lead to other questions though. “Hey, if you can make clothes, why do you want to go shopping?”

“Well the experience for one. Look you spend most your life locked up or doing hero work; you take any excuse to get out of the house. I just like seeing all the different shops and brands. How each one compares to each other.”

“That and…", she walked over and offered the hem of the gown to her, "Here.”

Puzzled, she took the cloth and rubbed it between her fingers. It felt… off. A bit courser than the smother silk of hers, and she could really fill the cross pattern stitching. If anything it felt a bit like steel wool; only marginal not as bad. Jenny could probably wear it given her skin but it would drive her a little mad trying to wear it.

“I can rapidly make clothes but I can’t hold a candle to what humans make…, Well I COULD,” She corrected herself as she pulled the cloth back, "I would just have to learn and practice. Don’t want to assign space to that right now. Maybe later…”

“I suppose most your memory is for combat. heroics and being well you.”

“That is a good part of my core files yeah. Point is, I got reasons why I don’t just auto print everything.”

Mya went to say something else but a yawn cut her off. Jenny ended up letting out one in response. Who knew robots yawned? Well after everything else today, she shouldn’t be surprised...., wait does that mean she could..., no. NOPE. That's the path Cupid probably wants her to take. She shook off the idea of what other human 'reactions' Jenny could have.

“Eh..., if I was up to it I'd say maybe we chat a bit, but think I’m just gonna turn in.” Mya said as she took a few steps and plopped down onto her half bed.

The moment she fell in, she was reminded how comfortable it was. And now she had all the time she needed to take it all in. Little on the firmer side than she wanted but the sheets and blankets went a long way to making up for that. Same with the pillows. She heard the other bed creek a bit as Jenny laid down. The back ends Jenny had installed over the sawed off side blocked vision between them but she could hear the bed and blankets move as the robot got comfy.

“Think I’ll do some light reading before getting some zzz’s.” Her voice drift up over the barrier.

“Up to you. Don’t really have too much of a plan tomorrow. Besides going over some more of the documents. Maybe do some job hunting, see about workshop permits or yawn, something.” Mya muttered out as she made herself comfy, "You gonna do it interanlly or by reading an actual book?"

"Internally." Came the answer, "Figured it would be quieter than flipping paper to the next page every so often."

“Kind of you...," She gave another big yawn, "I know is I’m looking forward to a nice long sleep. It’s been a day.” She turned over in her bed and drew the blankets closer. “Night Jenny”.

“Night Mya.” Jenny called before reaching out with her extending arm to flick the lights off before going back to her internal net surfing.

A few hours later, someone got up from the bed. Slowly and carefully she walked over to the other bed. Confident the other was asleep, the figure walked out the room and quietly shut the door.

“Sorry, Mya. I just… gotta do this.” Jenny whispered as she turned to walk down the stairs.

Their savings were in pretty dire straights. She’d done the math in her head earlier; t was what she wanted to look at before joining Mya upstairs.. Even with the self sustain of the house, their savings would only last about a week. What if their bikes broke? What if Mya got sick or had to go to the hospital? Forget having money for any ‘fun’, they could be in real trouble.

Yet, she found a solution to this problem. It wasn’t a good one but it was fast one.

From her web surfing, she found about people called Fixers. They were problem solvers and guardians;; doing stuff like what she did at home. Someone would put up a job on one of the boards of the site, someone would come along and do it. Help the community and earn some money, easy peasy.

And it seemed pretty official looking.. With rules and guidelines, customs and practices. Every site seemed to have a manager of some kind, an arbitrator, that posted quick jobs that anyone could do. Taking the better paying jobs was for regulars.

But she found a pretty easy looking task. Well, easy for her, and it looked like it was something to help the community anyway so it was a win win..., right?

"But if Mya knew she’d worry, or stop me. I gotta watch over her.” Jenny muttered to herself.

She slowly moved into the garage, her nightie shifting to a crop top and track pants. She made a point of grabbing a thick jacket from the closet before coming here. That along with with a bike helmet; should give her some level of anonymity. Last thing she wanted was to be on the morning news. Perhaps before doing the job she could hack into the cameras around, hopefully to block her from vision. Her chassis couldn't support an invisibility generator, so this was the best she could do.

She slowly pulled out of the garage on he bike, making sure the door behind her closed carefully. She kept this slow pace as she left the house, only really taking off once she was sure the sound wouldn’t carry back to bedroom. As she drove, Jenny took a moment to go over the info again.

According to the posting, there was a group of thugs that claimed a few backstreets for racing. Fast cars, loose morals, loud music, lots of drink; honestly it should just be a party. Wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the fact they disallowed anyone using those streets without paying a heavy toll to get through. And those streets were some of the quickest ways some people had to go to a hospital. Any late night emergencies and well…

“Not sure why the cops don’t shut them down." she thought as she reviewed data ranging from them being on the take, too lazy, or too stretched out.

That’s probably why this Fixer thing got started. Sky Patrol from her world was... an okay organization. Way too much paper work which meant they usually arrived either ahead of time to the point they basically alerted everyone something was going on, or too late to be of much use. However she hadn't heard of any of them being crooked. But if the local police were like them along with bribes... she could see how people started to take things into their own hands.

She parked a good distance away so she could creep up on her targets, sticking to back street, alleys and rooftops. Jenny wasn't bold enough to just go charge in, not these days anyway. Brave enough to do something like this in the first place yeah, but not jump into the middle of a gang of unknowable numbers and unknown armament. Also, they were human, she couldn't just drop in and start blasting. Thoughts and plans were running through her head as she came to a stop at an overhang just above the races. It was a small group, maybe twenty or so but they took up the whole street with make shift barricades and a few guards at them.

Tapping the side of her head, a scanner activated letting her quickly label scan and ID members around. They were confident or stupid as she didn't see any members on higher ground. A bit odd but most their rap sheets didn't' show 'higher' planning. Theft, ****, a few **** busts; and there was little surprise about how many of them had auto theft on their records. But no real in depth heists or ****, just seemingly opportunity based crimes. They were just focused on street crimes, and bikes as a focus.

“And that is a lot of stolen ones too.” Jenny muttered as she started to scan the bikes.

About every third bike seemed to be stolen or had gone missing in the past few months. The posting had been just to drive the thugs off. But why stop there? Maybe she could do something about that when she was done.

Jenny stood up and took a breath to steady herself as she materialized a large hammer. Hopefully this would be quick. With a huge leap, she took off and aimed her fall on one of the bigger and more cybered up guy she could find.

Mya grumbled as she turned over, struggling to get the blankets off her face. How late was it? She didn’t have a clue where the clock in this room was.

“Jen?” She asked as she got her legs free and stood with a stretch.

No response. Worried, she took a few stumbles steps over to her bed. The robot was missing, but her bed showed signs of someone had been sleeping. She couldn’t have gone too far right?

Stifling a yawn, she started to wander around. It had been a long night for her. Still a little fearful she’d wake up somewhere else. Or maybe back home. Along with a few flashes of her Gran being worried . There had been a lot in her head.

Along with a few flashes of long white legs with cyan details. And how soft those air bags probably would be.

“Knock it off; not playing into Cupid’s hands.”

Jen was certainly a looker no doubt about it. Her mom either had relaxed a bit or Jen had gone behind her back for some tuning. Cupid could only do so much if there wasn’t something already there right? And that baseline had to be pretty great if that was the case; she looked like a robotic verison of one of those pin up swimsuit models... or maybe one of those top heavy anime characters.

But she didn’t need someone drooling over her, Jen needed a friend right now.

Speaking of the robot though, Jenny wasn’t in the bathroom nor closet. It took Mya poking her head out of the bedroom to get any kind of sign of where she was. A smell was coming from the kitchen, one of pancakes. Mya rushed back inside the bedroom for a robe before heading down. Last thing she wanted to do was strut around the house in her sleepwear.

“Least this fits.” she took a bit of time to adjust it though before heading downstairs.

Jenny was mid flip of some batter when Mya walked into the kitchen. The robot was dressed about the same as yesterday, just different colors; orange sport top and red shorts. She turned her head entirely and waved her hand holding the spatula while she had a big grin on her face.

“Could you… not turn your entire head?. That’s a bit weird.”

“Err right sorry.” She turned her head back the right way, “I’m just … used to people being used to that.”

“Gimme time and maybe.” Mya said as she picked up a remote and sat at the kitchen counter, flicking on the tv that was mounted to a wall, "When did you get up?"

“Hour ago, maybe little more.” Jenny said as she put the hot cakes onto a plate and passed it over to Mya, "I might need to 'sleep' but I not a super deep sleeper."

"Really? You seemed pretty out of it when we first woke up together."

"I was kinda drained from a fight the day before. Took place over a couple blocks of the city. Also maybe getting warped through time and space did something." she shrugged as she poured some more batter onto the skillet, "I don't know what to tell you about that."

"And do you normally cook?"

"For my mom some times yeah. And my friend. I do have non robotic friends." Jenny huffed by blowing some air into her cheeks, "Mom however would always goes on about proper care and stuff but all she does is shove those energy bars of hers down her throat. Healthy sure but... there's like nothing besides nutrients there." she paused before giving a sigh.

"Hope she's doing well and not... completely freaking out."

"So you do care about your mother."

"....I'm still kinda mad about this whole thing yeah." Jenny sighed as she carried another plate of pancakes to the table, "And I do want to get into a shouting match about this with her but..., she's family you know. I'll get mad, angry, even furious but..., I can't just throw all the memories I have of her away can I?"

"I kinda get that." she started to dig into her food and spoke with some in her mouth, "Gooh 'anmakes..."

"I'm assuming good pancakes."

Mya nodded as she swallowed and dug into the food. Completely ignoring the TV which was running a report about..., some strange vigilante that broke up a biker gang. Jenny took a huge stack of pancakes stuck to a hardlight fork she made and started to bite into it, using the floored look Mya was giving her to stretch her arm out and nic the remote, flipping the channel. Mya turned her head when she noticed it was new some sort of movie but Jenny gave a shrug.

"I get enough news reports and the like back home. Because I'm usually a part of them. I'd rather not listen to the news. Oh.. and if you want weather." one of her pig tails turned into a radar dish as some letters and numbers started to flash by in her eyes, "Mid 70s, low chance of rain, little humid."

"That's handy." Mya said as her companion put the gadgets away, "So..., what's the plan today? We need a way to kill time for two weeks you said?"

"The teleport booklet said so. It has like an emergency warp if we're in trouble but the house has to detect something major going on. Like one of us dying, it would teleport us to a word or place where we could get some help." Jenny said before quickly finishing off her plate, "Bright side it IS programmable. So we can visit my place or yours first."

"Good. I was worried we'd be jumping through the multiverse or something. So now we just gotta find something to do."

"Let's go out!" Jenny said, a big grin on her face.

"Hold on lemme finish." she added before Mya could say anything, "We're gonna be stuck here for a bit, maybe longer if Cupid is lying or something. I understand we need to get like a job or something just to make a little bit of cash, just in case. But we don't know the city at all or anything like that. I figured we could spend a day or two getting our feet on the ground, maybe talk with some shops or something about what part time jobs we could get. Heck, resteruants always need servers or busboys. Well girls."

"So you want to go have a day out on the town, while collecting info you could maybe easily process with your electronic brain at home?" Mya sighed as she pushed the plate away.

It was a good idea but she felt like it was just a distraction to let Jenny go out and have some fun. But if she didn't let the robot have some fun who knew what she would be willing to do. Memories of her sneaking out to have some fun during her show came to her. Best to make a call now.

How does Mya answer?
