Chapter 4 by Zeikfreid Zeikfreid

So where are you?

My Dungeon

The room I'm sitting in is dimly lit by a few purple glowing crystals scattered about creating ominous shadows along the walls and floor. The walls were stone bricks, clearly showing I was inside some sort of building, likely below ground given the coolness of the air and lack of natural light of any kind. The room was much like a royal hall, a long rectangle shaped room with double doors at the far end from where I was sitting, and myself currently seated on a high backed chair up a couple of steps.

Taking a breath through my nose I start to adjust to my new body as I stand up. I'm taller now, that's for certain, as before I stood at an average height of five foot ten inches but now I was easily six foot ten. Glancing at what I can see of my new body my skin is a dark purple color, with no hair along any exposed skin, my nails are black points, though they aren't long enough to do more than a flesh wound. My muscle mass has also increased, with lean but powerful muscles in my arms and legs and while i didn't have a six pack my stomach was flat and there wasn't an excess bit of fat anywhere on me. As I look over my new body i notice I'm wearing some kind of cloth pants and vest, and while likely not what would be considered appropriate for a soon to be ruler it served its purpose if offering some protection and semblance of decency. The most important parts however were sitting beside my chair on a small table, an iron dagger in the shape of a baselard and a violet gem.

Walking up I picked up the dagger, feeling the weight and finding it satisfactory as well as swinging it a few times to try to get a feel for it. Satisfied with it I sheathed it and tied it to my pants on my left side as I focused on the gem. It wasn't large by any means, about the size of a quarter, and it seemed to give off a bit of light. Staring at it for a few moments I was unable to puzzle out what this gem was, but if it was here waiting for me it likely was important. Putting the gem into one of the pockets on my vest I started walking down towards the door and began to feel the dungeon feeding me information.

I was currently in a sub-basement, with the chamber I had just left being what would normally be the boss room. Ahead of me was a maze of passages and rooms, each one with at least two of my personal monsters within. Passing through one room on my way towards the surface I used my God's Eye on them to see that they were imps. Dark red skin, stubby horns, gangly limbs, and a mediocre stat allotment. Low level dungeon monsters indeed, but more than useful due to their absolute obedience and their sheer numbers.

It took thirty minutes to work my way up through the catacombs and reach the surface, finding myself in the ruins of an old castle. The outer walls had collapsed at some point and ivy had already begun climbing over the stones as nature worked to reclaim it, with the trees of the forest having grown close enough to make it seem as though nature was trying to strangle this place from existing. The inner courtyard was filled with broken flagstones and persistent vegetation that had fought its way up past the stones. The keep was in incredibly poor condition, with only the fact that it had the rough shape of a building giving it away. The doorway I climbed out of lead to a cellar with the wooden floorboards above having begun to rot away, streams of sunlight coming through the gaps as I walked to the stairs and emerged out into this new world for the first time.

If I didn't know better I would have thought I was still in my own world. The sky was blue, clouds drifted through the sky, I could hear the faint sounds of various birds and insects in the forest surrounding me. I took a deep breath before exhaling with a grin. This world might be dangerous, but I think I'm going to like it here.

So what's the plan?
