Chapter 3 by Nanking Nanking

What's next?

Multiversal Mishaps.

"This is incredible!" Gwen said as she first walked into the Spider Society headquarters. After her father had discovered her identity as Spider-Woman and almost arrested her, Gwen had been **** to flee with Jessica Drew and Miguel O'Hara. She had been a bit nervous about moving to a literal alternate dimension, but seeing this amazing facility was really exciting.

"This is the Lobby," Jessica Drew laughed as they walked into a massive space filled with walkways and Spider-People swinging around.

"Wow," Gwen gasped, taking it all in.

"Alright, Gwen, follow me," Jess said as she led Gwen through the facility. Gwen enthusiastically followed looking starry eyed at everything they passed. She saw Spider-men, Spider-women, Man-spiders, Spider-cats and everything in-between! "So, here's the thing. We've never actually had a permanent resident here at headquarters, so you're going to need to follow some ground rules. Ok?"

"Got it."

"Rule One: always wear your Gizmo. It'll keep you from glitching and let you perform independent multiversal jumps."

"Cool," Gwen said, looking at the device Miguel had given her.

"Rule Two: Don't use the Gizmo to jump without telling anyone. Wouldn't want you getting stuck in an alternate universe without us knowing where to find you."

"Makes sense."

"Right, and that's part of Rule Three: Take care of your Gizmo. It's tough but delicate. If you don't know how to use it, you could be placing yourself in some serious trouble. So don't toy with it until we show you how. You understand Gwen... Gwen?"

Jess turned around and saw Gwen several meters behind her, chatting it up with another Spider-man, Hobie Brown.

"Seriously," Gwen smiled, "In your universe, I'm a rockstar!"

"You bet, love," Hobie said, "Where I'm from Gwen Stacy is a legend! Maybe the most influential musician--the greatest artist--of our generation."

"That's awesome! Gwen said ecstatic. "I'm actually in a band myself. Or at least I was."

"And the way did she croaked? Epic!"

"I'm sorry, what?" Gwen asked concerned. However, she never got an answer.

"Gwen!" Jessica said, stomping over. "You need to pay attention. This is important. Miguel is still iffy about the idea of you staying here permanently. If you don't follow these rules, he might send you back!"

"cough* cough* fascist, " Hobie said while covering his mouth.

"You're right, Jess." Gwen said, being far more complacent than Hobie. "I'm sorry, please continue."

"Good. Now let me show you to your room."

Gwen followed her fellow Spiderwoman down the walkway and into a large corridor after zigzagging through a handful of these. The pair made it to a small hallway with doors on either side.

"The third one on the left is yours." Jess said. Gwen happily jogged over, opened the automatic door, and walked in. Despite being in a futuristic world, the room was fairly simple. It had one main room with a bed, desk, couch, and stereo. It also had a small, attached kitchen and bathroom.

"Honesty," Gwen admitted. "Not what I was expecting from a futuristic universe."

"Yeah, Miguel didn't want to go too cyberpunk with the dormitories," Jess said. "Thought it might scare some of the variants. Isn't that right, Parquagh." Jess yelled at another Spider-man dressed in Victorian dress walking down the hall."

"Indeed," Peter Parquagh, the Spiderman of the year 1602, answered. "The world outside this building scares the dickens out of me."

"Anyway, make yourself comfortable." Jess said, guiding Gwen into her room. "We know you don't have any luggage, so we put some basic clothing in the cabinet tomorrow. we'll help you get some stuff before taking you through orientation, so just try and relax. Bye, Gwen."

"Bye, Jessica. Thank you for all this." Gwen waved as Spider-woman walked out the door and shut the door.

Now alone in her new dorm room, Gwen gleefully squealed and fell onto the bed. Things had ended badly with her dad, but it was all working out now. She was part of an elite spider team, mentored by a cool spiderwoman, and even had her own place. She looked around the place one more time. Gwen's eyes scanned the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom just to confirm it was all real. Eventually, she turned her head so far she ended up with her nose in her armpit.

"P.U!" Gwen exclaimed, jerking her head away. "I think I'm still sweating from that vulture. How no one noticed."

Gwen looked over towards the bathroom and smiled. She shared a bathroom with her father back home, but here it was all hers. Gwen stood up and unzipped her spidersuit, letting it naturally fall off her shoulders and leaving her naked as a jaybird. She marched over into the bathroom (without closing the door) and stepped into the shower (without closing the curtain). Now fully embracing her independent lifestyle in the silliest way possible, Gwen twisted the showerknobs and turned on the water.

"Oh yeah." Gwen said as the crystal clear water caressed over her body. Miguel may have paired down this room to look like the 21st century, but some things still felt futuristic. The water felt cleaner than any bottled water supposedly sourced from a mountain spring. It felt so nice. Gwen felt like she could stay in here for hours.

"In fact," Gwen smiled. The female webslinger fired a web out of the bathroom, through the bedroom, and into the stereo, which immediately started up, blasting rock n roll through the dormroom.

"Yes," Gwen cheered as she began dancing in the shower. She bobbed her head, moved her feet, and swung her arms while also lathering herself up.

"I love living alone," Gwen yelled as she threw her arms in the air. This, however, resulted in Gwen slamming the face of her Gizmo into the shower wall. The device instantly started to glow and beep loudly.

"Uh-oh," Gwen brought the Gizmo up to her face to examine it. The various buttons were flashing on and off in sequence, and the screens were projecting information Gwen couldn't possibly understand.

"Umm, this is fine, right?" Gwen tried to reassure herself. "It's resetting or something. I'm not in any danger. What was that third rule again? It's tough."

Then, without warning, a portal opened up above Gwen, one that looking far less stable than the ones Jess and Miguel had made earlier. Before she could really think about it, a great suction came from the portal pulling Gwen and everything around her towards it.

"No no no no no." Gwen panicked. She shot a web at the base of the tub with one hand and grabbed the shower curtain rod with the other. However, her still soapy hands couldn't get a grip, and her hand was pulled back by the suction. Now, her web was the only thing keeping Gwen in this universe.

"Somebody stop this! I can't go to another universe right now. I'm - " As Gwen cried out, the pull of the portal proved to great, and her web snapped in half. "NAKKEEEEEEDDD!!!"

Gwen screamed as she was pulled into the portal before it closed. Leaving the dorm room empty except for the sounds of running water and rock music.
