Chapter 40 by Impregmaniac Impregmaniac

Who was it?

Mrs. Clara Holden-Buress.

She was trim woman and had long bright blonde hair, that ended at her waist. She stood with her back straight and with purpose as she conversed with Gloria. Her blue Dress clung tight to her body and a wide brimmed Hat was on my Table. "Good afternoon, and how do you do, Miss...?" I asked, with Howard coming in behind me.

"Clara. Mrs. Clara Holden-Buress," she stated, with a short nod and a cold expression, "How do you do, Mr. Mckay? I believe you've met my cousin."

Unlike him, the feeling I received from her was that she was confident and sure of her position, while he may have been putting on airs. Nevertheless, I responded politely. "I have had that pleasure, Mrs. Holden-Buress. Won't you have a seat? And could the staff provide you with anything to drink? Tea? Coffee?" Curtly, she informed them that she'd like a cup of Tea, and within moments, a laden Tray appeared in front of us. "Well then, Mrs. Holden-Buress, what brings you to me today? Are you here to petition my support for your cousin's cause?"

"Hardly," she replied sharply. Fixing her Tea to her preference, she tapped her Spoon loudly and sipped. "Quite the opposite in fact. I wish to sway you away from that idiot's ridiculous plan."

My eyebrow shot upwards in surprise. "You do not support your cousin? And insult him, Mrs. Holden-Buress?" I turned over to my staff and asked them, "Is that a common practice here, that I was unaware of? That women can speak ill of their family behind their backs?"

Mrs. Holden-Buress' face turned sour and pursed her lips. "No, Mr. Mckay, it is not a Madsin practice. Although it is common enough among family members."

I looked back over to her and said, "Well forgive me for saying, but I was always under the impression that comments and feelings such as those were best shared and kept by one's closest friends. And not aired out in public, Mrs. Holden-Buress."

"That is why I am telling you, and your staff, in confidence, Mr. Mckay."

I narrowed my eyes at this woman. "As you wish, Mrs. Holden-Buress. And now, in confidence, might you please divulge why you you are telling me all this, and how, if at all, it relates to your cousin's plans?"

Why?
