More than you Bargained for!

Walking into the cave your senses are steeped in the smells of moss and stagnant water. The cave is much damper than you realized with condensation coating the walls. Distantly you hear the drip of water coming from deeper into the cave. You press forward, unperturbed by the dampness of the place. Your flashlight reveals a thick carpet of moss on the floor, that seems to continue all throughout the cave. As you keep walking you're surprised, this cave is much bigger than you realized, you've gone at least a hundred feet in and it shows no signs of stopping. Well, nothing to do but keep going, and so you steel yourself and continue forward into the dark.

After about thirty minutes of walking you feel like you need a break. You don't know why this cave is so huge but wondering that isn't going to help you get deeper into it. As you stop and catch your breath a faint sound makes itself known to you. It sounds halfway between a scream and a moan. You stand alert. There's no way of knowing if it's safe to proceed, there could be anyone or anything in this place and so you could very well be walking into a trap; that being said, you don't want to leave someone in trouble when you could do something about it. You think about it for a moment and decide to proceed, walking swiftly into the dark to find whatever's making that noise.
