Moonstone Injures Sue Storm To Have More Time With Her

From the window of her office, Moonstone could watch Sue Storm on her way to her appointment. Face pressed almost against the glass, the blonde villain licked her lips as she thought about what she was about to do. What she had to do. An hour a week with Susan Storm wasn't enough. She needed more time...much more time than an active superheroine and wife could spare.

She tensed as the Invisible Woman made her way along the sidewalk. Small microgravitic fluctuations nudged her toward the outer edge of the sidewalk, all the bustling midday Manhattan crowd utterly absorbed in their own little lives. Doom's enhancements to Moonstone's powers were more than she had dared dream. Her lips peeled as she saw Sue Storm step aside, almost into the street, to make room for a baby stroller...that was just like her...

The villain's eyes flashed. The passing car's tire exploded. Sue Storm turned, and with an instant of selfless heroism, she flung up an invisible wall to protect the people on the sidewalk. She neither saw nor heard the other car whose tire had burst had almost the exact same moment, coming the other direction. Skidding across traffic. Directed by gravitic forces to side-swipe the Invisible Woman.

Moonstone shivered as she saw the one good front wheel roll over Sue's leg, which was in the street. She saw the look of pain on the face of the tiny figure below.

Then "Dr. Stone" was moving, running, literally flying down the stairs, her feet not touching the floor.

Ten minutes later, Sue Storm was leaning on Dr. Stone, one arm thrown around her shoulder. The Invisible Woman's face was a mask of pain, her wounded lower leg bent at the knee. The doctor eased her patient into a chair. Without asking, she produced a pair of scissors and cut away much of the pants up to the knee. Sue winced as the doctor took off shoe and sock.

In her chest, Moonstone's heart jumped, elated.

"This is a bad break. You might have to be off your feet for a few weeks...or even need surgery. I should call the hospital. I have admitting privileges..."

"Call my husband," Sue grimaced. "We...we have medical facilities at the Baxter Building. Secure...damn, it hurts..."

The swear, so rare on Sue's lips, came out naturally. Dr. Stone fought to keep a smile off of her face.

"I can help you deal with the pain...if you let me hypnotize you..." Dr. Stone said. "Or I could give you a pill..."
