Moonstone Calls Dr. Nightshade

"Okay. Don't panic. This could be a side-effect of the therapy," Moonstone said to herself as she stared at the smiling, vacant face of the Invisible Woman. She wasn't sure how much, if anything, the blonde heroine could hear, but she had to keep in-character as the concerned doctor. Swiftly, she checked Sue Storm's pulse, and pupil response. Both were normal. There were no contusions about her head, no signs of blood.

"Right. Patient appears to be catatonic. This is more than I can handle on my own. Time to call on some...discreet medical assistance."

Who, though? Moonstone asked herself. I can't call Doctor Doom without blowing my cover. Can't call Reed Richards without, again, possibly blowing my cover. So I need to call someone with experience in superhuman anatomy and medicine, who is willing to come at a moment's notice, won't blab, and I can pay off without complications.

It was a short list. Dr. Nightshade was at the top of it.

She answered on the third ring.

"No more abortions for gamma mutates," the Black woman said immediately. Moonstone pinched the bridge of her nose.

"That was one time, doctor. I have a medical emergency. Superhuman woman, mid-thirties, had some sort of cerebral event. She's breathing, pulse steady, but nonresponsive," Moonstone said, then added. "I need this done fast and quiet. Triple your standard fee."

That caused Nightshade to pause. Triple her fee could probably afford her a set of adamantium scalpels.

"Address?" she said.

Fifteen minutes later, a petite Black woman with her hair up in a pair of afro balls walked into Moonstone's office. Her outfit was a combination of black leather hotpants, thigh-high boots, and a black vest that barely contained her small breasts. She carried a medical bag almost as large as she was. Moonstone had taken the time to redress. She left Sue Storm naked and on the floor, feet elevated on a cushion.

Nightshade took in the scene immediately.

"Oh lawd, it's some freaky white people sex scene," she said, voice withering. She stared at Moonstone. "This better not be another attempt at a threesome, Karla."

"Dr. Johnson, so good of you to come on short notice," Moonstone said, evenly. "As you can see, my patient needs your help. We need to get her home to her family, safe and sound, as quickly as possible."

Nightshade rolled her eyes, set down her bag, and unzipped it. From the confines she took out a laptop and a number of small triangular sensors. The sensors she placed on various points of Sue Storm's head and body. For a few long, agonizing moments, she tapped away at the laptop. A three-dimensional image of Sue Storm appeared, rotated. Karla couldn't interpret the data that Nightshade was collecting, but apparently the Black woman could. Her pretty little mouth twisted into a frown.

"Well...I have good news and bad news."

Karla asked the obvious question.
