Mom saves me

All of a sudden, Kase lets me go. I fall to the ground and try my best to breathe.

“What the hell is going on here!?” I hear my mom’s voice.

I look up at Kase and see it his him now who is being choked by my mom. Her face. I don’t think I have ever seen as angry as this.

“Darx! What happened?” My mom demands.

“Fabe was beating up Oliver.” I tell her while I look over at where Oliver lies.

Fabe is still standing there but he’s not hurting Oliver any more. He is staring at my mom with fear.

“I tried to stop him, but Kase tried to stop me. Said I couldn’t get in between a ‘fight between men’.” I continue explaining.

“I see.” Mom says. Then she throws Kase to the ground.

“You think one man kicking another while he’s down is honorable, Kase? Well?!” Mom challenges Kase.

“He’s lying.” Kase tells her. “You’re not going to believe him, are you?”

“SHUT UP!!” Mom yells at Kase. “You think I didn’t see Oliver defenseless on the ground? You think I don’t know my own son? Of course, he would come to the aid of his best friend!”

“Ilene, I can explain …” Kase tries again.

“Explain what!?” Mom continues yelling at Kase. She starts walking slowly and menacingly at Kase and continues her tirade. “Explain why you were **** my child? Explain why you were letting a bully get away with his behavior? Go on the, explaion those things!”

Kase is backing off from my mom. Seems like he knows he should be afraid of her. She is a rank B after all. Even without her weapons and armor, she is still a ****.

“I agreed to train you because I thought you would use your skills for good! Instead I find you doing this!?” Mom continues yelling. “You can forget training with me ever again! I will make certain your father hears of this. Jax will hear of this. The whole village will know why your training suddenly stopped! Now get out of my sight and never let me see you anywhere near my son ever again, or I will permanently ruin that face of yours!”

After that, Kase finally gave up and ran off. Damn, I have never seen my mom act like such a lioness.

I turn to Oliver to see how Fabe has reacted. He is already gone. Looks like he didn’t wait for my mom to turn on him as well.

Mom and I walk over to Oliver and together we help him get up. We help him all the way to his parent’s inn. Of course, his parents wanted to know what happened. Mom told them everything. Whatever customers that were around hear it too. It shouldn’t take long for this news to travel around the village. Soon everyone will know about it. I shouldn’t be happy for Oliver having been beaten up like this. But the idea that Kase’s reputation here is now ruined kinda satisfies me a bit.

With Oliver safe at home, I tell my mom I’m going to go see Mia and tell her what happened. I head over to her house and ask her parents if I can see Mia and Emma. Their father says they are in their rooms, but he also lets me know he is not very fond of a boy and his daughters being all alone in their room. Can’t say that he shouldn’t be suspicious. I remember what happened last time I was alone with Mia in her room.

Instead, I suggest that he calls them and we can chat outside. He was a lot more comfortable with that.

I wait outside and soon after Emma and Mia show up.

“Hey, Darx. Thanks for coming by.” Mia says. “Let’s go to the stables. We need to talk.”

I go together with Mia and Emma to the stables. I remember what happened last time I was here. It makes me feel a little nervous.

Emma is the first to say something and asks, “How’s Oliver?”

“He’s got quite some bruises.” I tell her. “Fabe really messed him up.”

Perhaps I should have been more tactful, because my answer makes Emma start to cry.

“And you didn’t stop him?” Mia asked.

“I couldn’t.” I said. “Kaze stopped me. He was even **** me. Thank god my mom came along to chase him and Fabe off.”

“He did what?” Mia asked completely flabbergasted. “Why would he do that? What’s gotten into him.”

I hold up my hands and say, “I have no idea. But he seemed really eager at getting into a fight with me.”

“That ass.” Mia curses. “Thank god your mom was there.”

“Anyways, mom and I brought Oliver to his parents and we told them what happened.” I continue explaining. “Mom also decided to stop training Kase on the spot. I guess Kase’s reputation is pretty much ruined, now.”

“Good.” Mia says. “I never liked him anyways.”

“By the way, how are you doing, Emma?” I ask.

“I’m fine now.” Emma says as she starts to get her tears under control.

Then Mia starts to become a bit agitated at her sister. “What are you talking about? Of course, you’re not fine.”

“Mia, please don’t.” Emma begs.

Then Mia calms herself down and says, “Listen. Darx can be trusted. I trust him. He can help us.”

Emma then relents and lets her sister continue.

“I demanded Emma to show me the bruises Oliver was talking about.” Mia then makes pauze and says, “It’s true, Darx. She does have bruises. Fabe has been hitting her. But there’s more.”

“What is it?” I ask.

“Darx, you have to promise me not to tell anyone. Absolutely no one. Not even your mother and definitely not our parents, you hear.” Mia says nervously.

“Ok, I promise. What is it?”

Mia takes a deep breath and then says, “Emma is pregnant.”

I blink a few times. Pregnant?

I look over at Emma, who is too ashamed to look me in the eyes and I ask, “What?”

“She’s been having sex with Fabe.” Mia says. “She has missed her period a few weeks ago.” Mia’s hands start shaking. “She’s been having morning sickness.”

Now Mia’s eyes are getting moist with tears. I have never seen Mia this upset before.

“She’s not gona be able to become an adventurer, Darx. Not when she’s having a baby. All because that asshole Fabe **** himself on her.”

Mia then wipes some tears out of her eyes and looks at me desperately.

“We don’t know what to do, Darx. Fabe’s primary response to nearly anything and everything is aggression. If he already beats Emma when he thinks she isn’t pregnant, imagine how he will react when he learns she is.”

“So, what? We have to keep Fabe away from her?” I ask.

“Which means she and Fabe can’t go to the capital together.”

“You already said Emma can’t be an adventurer any more. Why not have Emma stay here?” I ask.

But before Mia can answer my question, Emma replies with a clear, “No!”

Mia and I both look at Emma who has been mostly silent for now.

“If I stay, mom and dad will find out.” Emma explains fearfully. “When they do, they’re going to think I’m a slut. I’m not even married but I’m already having a baby. I can’t do it, Darx. I’m already disappointing them by not becoming an adventurer. Now I’m also going to have a bastard? I just can’t have the baby here. I need to leave before they find out.”

And Emma goes back to crying. Mia heads back over to her little sister to console her again. As I watch the twins, I think back of that time Mia and I spent at the mossy clearing. I almost came inside her back then. If I had, then two months from now, Mia might be crying just like Emma. Thank god I managed to pull out in time. The idea of causing Mia to cry like that, and it all being my fault, would I be able to bear it?

Mia then looks back at me and says, “Darx, I want to help my little sister, but I have no idea how.”
