How does Art class start?
Miss Violet Is Late
With Sunny, and all of the other students going back to their seats, the teacher finally appears. She opens the door, and as soon as she shows her face, all of the students greet her. I’m actually so surprised to see her again that I don’t say anything. Instead of saying hello, I take a moment to see if she has changed at all since the last time I saw her. And after a few seconds of analyzing her whole appearance, I can confidently say that she is still the same as always, at least look wise.
Miss Violet is a tall, skinny woman in her late twenties, known for being the most charismatic teacher in school. She has gotten that title thanks to her easy going, goofy personality. She is more laid back than the other teachers, probably more than she should be, but we all love her because of that. She just doesn’t care sometimes, about anything. From her curly mess of a hair, which I would call brown, but she is covered in paint so often that it changes color every day, to even her own class. She takes everything lightly, never worrying or stressing about grades, looks, or anything.
This would be considered being a bad teacher, since she must be responsible at least of making sure all of her students are studying, or just fulfilling their basic duties as students. But Miss Violet doesn’t care about any of that stuff. She usually only gives two projects a year, and even if we don’t do well, she gives us good grades for anything we do. Her only rule is being kind, so as long as we behave nicely, she will bless us with her kindness and a bunch of A’s. She doesn’t even care about her outfit, which is usually a turquoise dress and a white, open, short blouse, which always gets stained with paint, even when she wears her old, beige apron.
She can be very extravagant sometimes, which might be obnoxious for some, but for us, it’s a treat to have such a fun teacher. During class, she usually does silly things to entertain us, which most of the time involves getting herself dirty with paint. This class can be an interesting, relaxing instance for us to explore our creativity at the least, or just a complete mess at the most, in a good way. Miss Violet never disappoints when coming up with new projects. We’ve done all sorts of things with her. From photography, pottery, painting, drawing, sculpting, woodworking, everything. I think I’m bad at half of those skills, but it was very fun to try it out. The best part was that I got great grades, even when I did a poor job. That’s just how nice Miss Violet can be sometimes.
Actually, she is like that all of the time. She does anything for art, and I can tell she enjoys teaching us to explore all of these creative skills, because she always tries her best to help us. She can be a little crazy too, giving us eccentric examples of what we could do, which always turns into the weirdest creations I’ve seen. But that’s just proof of her passion for art. We’ve all seen what she is capable of doing when she is inspiring, and thankfully, she is such an inspirational, empathetic, and encouraging person that we have received some of her talent to create our own works of art. I think some of us have received more talent than others, but it’s still a fair situation for all of us.
We all get the chance to do whatever we want, there are no restrictions, no limits. And with the amount of materials we have to work with, we always get to create great pieces of art, well, some of us. But even for the less talented, like me, we always improve every time Miss Violet gives us something to do, and I think that’s all that matters. After all, this class isn’t supposed to be like the others. Exams don’t exist, even though there was an option to do theoretical lessons and whatnot, grades don’t matter, it’s pretty much impossible to fail this class, and the best part is that we are completely free to create whatever we want. Maybe I abused that freedom when I dropped this class for two months, but that doesn’t matter. The thing is that I love this class and I’m glad to be back. Yea, I think I made that pretty obvious.
But alright, with all of that out of the way, I’m so ready for class to start. Miss Violet walks to her mini stage, where she mostly stands watching us work for an hour. But since we are coming back from a break, I think we’ll have to start a new project. So it seems like we won’t get to just grab random materials from the storage room and work on our masterpieces quite yet, like I was used to doing before. She has some information to give us first, and since she always gets our attention with her unique look, she doesn’t even have to wait for us to keep quiet to talk.
—Hello, my lovely students. Welcome back to your favorite class!!—
Everyone cheers, even I, since I can’t contain my excitement to be back. But after we all show our enthusiasm to be here, Miss Violet takes a moment to look at each of her students, and unfortunately, I’m one of them. I try to avoid eye contact, but I can tell she is staring directly at me. I then hear Sunny chuckling right next to me, so I’m guessing Miss Violet wants to have a word with me. I know there’s nothing I can do, so I just face my teacher, who looks pleased to see me. Thankfully, she is not the kind of person who holds any resentment. And while I feel like she was upset when I didn’t show up for two months, now that I did, she is eager to have me back working on more art, even if I suck at it. She confirms my suspicion with a bright smile, which gives me a sense of relief, but also a little shy, because I know what she is about to say in front of everyone.
—Look at who we have here. Andrew finally decided to come back! What a joy!—
Miss Violet is clearly ecstatic to have me back, but the embarrassing thing is that no one else says anything. She begins clapping, but my classmates don’t, only Sunny. My face starts flushing, but I try not to let it affect me too much. I regain some confidence, and seeing as Miss Violet pretty much already forgave me for missing her class, or at least that’s what it seems, I think I should share my excitement with her as well.
—Yeah! It feels good to be back here, I can’t wait to work with you again, Miss Violet!—
—That’s the spirit!!—
Thankfully, Miss Violet saves me some embarrassment when she draws her attention away from me. She tends to put every student in the spotlight for a brief moment in the class. I’m sure they are all used to it, but me still needing some time to build more confidence, it’s a bit unpleasant to become the center of attention for a few seconds. But I’m glad it’s over, because Miss Violet just greets a few other students, before asking for our attention with a dramatic gesture. We all pay close attention to what she is going to say, and as she takes a long time to speak, she builds some tension, before finally telling us what she has in mind.
—As you all might know, our school year is ending soon. Sadly, this is going to be the last year for some of you… But to end this year in spectacular fashion, we are going to host an art contest very soon!—
The whole class burst into cheers, yet again, but they all sound more excited than ever. I get it, this is a huge occasion, something we’ve rarely done in the past. But since I just rejoined this class, I can’t help but feel like I’m not going to be a part of this art contest. I came back to work on more smaller art projects, so hearing that we are already ending the year with an art contest is a bit unfortunate. But luckily, we do have more time to work on what I love the most.
—But don’t worry. You’ll have plenty of time to figure out what you want to do for the art contest. So for now, while we still can, why don’t we mess around like we always do a bit more? Shall we?—
Miss Violet pulls out a box full of paint cans out of nowhere, offering us the chance to keep working on silly paintings and drawings. It was a surprise to see her pull that trick, because I swear there was not a box of paint in sight, But regardless, this is what we’ve all been waiting for. Yes, this is it, this is all I need. Finally, I can resume working on my next masterpiece. I will make the best furry manga this world has ever seen. I mean, I will draw some cool anime characters or something. Let’s just get this started…
What's the first work of art I create?
