Chapter 27 by Yabusa Yabusa

What do you propose to do with Lancer while all alone in space?

Mind Meld

You smiled as you drifted closer toward Captain Lancer, coming within inches of her. This newfound confidence you've discovered as a mixture of multiple beings was really something... it wasn't really like you were somebody else, but you were in a place where the feelings that you kept to yourself were often bubbling up to the surface. With your alluring physique and command of talents beyond that of ordinary humans, it turns out it's very easy to express your inner voice. Every part of you accounted for a shortcoming of another, to such great effect that your confident moves intimidated the Captain.

"I have a thought." You spoke quietly, barely above a whisper while you were so close to the captain, floating in the open cabin but adapting easily. Nanites inside your body, unseen to the outside, had formed gyroscopes at your core, creating a stability in space that confounded Lancer, who had to continually use the walls and railings to anchor herself. You appeared fixed in space while the Captain continued to appear like she was bobbing in water with her constant adjustments.

"And what's... what's on your mind, doc?" Lancer looked into your eyes, feeling a little more **** than usual in a small space with a super-human. You'd successfully caught her off-guard, and it seemed to make her a bit more agreeable.

"I was thinking. About Project Inside Out and your involvement... you know I'm not just a part of the project, but I'm the assistant director at Hideki Labs, yes? I've been climbing pretty quickly up the ladder, you might say... and I have the power to hire a team of assistants and advisors for any project I'm a part of. I've only recently been brought in on the second part of the project, but I'm thinking I could use your professional feedback on the specifics of spaceflight. I've seen the files of the personnel on the project, none have logged any hours in space like you."

Lancer blinked in surprise, bracing herself a little at what you were insinuating. "That's... wow, that's a generous offer if you're giving me a way in to become a user of an exosuit. I'd been fighting for this for a while."

You smiled. "Wonderful. For posterity, though, I do need to interview you. A very quick, yet thorough one would be useful to me."

The Captain crossed her arms, looking around. "No real easy place to do that up here, we'll be bumping into things, or... I will, I guess. But if you want to just drift and chat... I suppose if I were to pick three words to describe myself, they would be--"

You started to giggle, giving Lancer a little shove in the shoulder, enough to put her off-kilter in space. "I already know enough about your professional qualifications. I've got a very different means of interviewing you--something where nothing would be hidden, for either of us." You **** your exosuit to draw back from your arm, removing the glove and revealing bare flesh again. Your nanites had gathered in your palm, showing a shining blue pattern. "This is the first step of the interview. I won't **** it, but knowing you'll trust me in unusual situations will make it easier for me to expedite your dreams."

Lancer looked at your hand, almost frightened by the unknown of what you had planned. A kiss seemed a little too forward, but you held your hand up toward her. She seemed to spend some time considering that whatever you might do might be malicious, or even dangerous, to her. But, you'd demonstrated so many unusual talents that you'd effortlessly utilized, so she eventually gulped and nodded. "Just do it, whatever it is."

You raised your hand further, resting your hand over the Captain's mouth. From your glowing blue lines in your palm, like a portal to another world, nano-slime poured out, dripping into Lancer's mouth. She reeled back slightly against the intrusion, this strange gelatin gathering in her mouth--and then she felt it trickle into her throat. You had a very specific destination for this slime, though, and you didn't need to impart much of your newly-blue goo into her. The nanites helped the slime burrow beyond her throat, immediately climbing upward. Lancer could feel a strange fuzzy sensation in her head, a drunkenness that she had not been prepared for as you briefly disrupted the normal activities in her brain. You didn't intend to harm her, and her mind in fact stayed intact--but your nanite-laden slime resided in the space between her neurons, mapping her brain.

You pulled away, as clarity returned to her. You saw everything about the Captain--each memory was accessible to you, although it was scattershot if you poked. Fortunately, the more you synchronized to her, the better you understood how Lancer was organized.

"I... can feel you." The captain finally spoke, her eyes looking at you, now an icy blue to match your own. Two small blue, glowing lines appeared on each side of her head, just in front of each ear. She wanted to ask what you had done, but she immediately knew it before she could form the words on her lips.

You were connecting your mind, including motor functions, senses, and thoughts, to her. It was a two-way street--Lancer could see everything about you, she could know every facet of who you are. Beyond that, she could accept that, as her mind seemed to effortlessly picture you as a different woman--a redhead down on the base--and your body and face immediately changed to match her thoughts.

"And I, most definitely, feel you, Captain." Please, call me... "...Kelly." You smiled, and Kelly smiled, your movements mirroring one another. Kelly's thoughts were focused on how she could make you appear like any woman she wished, but while she was occupied, you began to move both bodies in sync. In fact, as you brought your arms around Kelly's waist, and you made her do the same to you, your mouths talked in perfect synchronicity. "The bridge between our minds is growing every moment. In a few minutes, there won't be a Kelly or Juno. There will be just one being with two bodies, and we'll know everything together, we'll share our thoughts and talents. Whether we stay connected or not, whether we find more ways to get closer, that won't be up to us independently--it will be up to the 'me' that we will become. But I will guarantee, Kelly, that our future will become far more intertwined from this moment on."

The moments passed as you and Kelly grew closer, until you couldn't separate whose thoughts came from which brain. You could see from both sets of eyes, feel from both sets of hands, and you lost a sense of ownership over only one body. Once more, only a singular being existed in the cabin of the ship, even with multiple bodies present.

What do you do with your two human bodies?
