Let's delve deeper with...

Metals

All things in this world have innate, magical properties that make them special. In creatures, it can specific organs. However, there is only one type of item of great, vested interest when it comes to magical properties...and that is metals. Here we shall discuss the most famous metals and what their magical properties are like.

*********************************

Gold:

Gold is normally known as a precious metal used for trading. Whether this be gold coins, gold bars, or even trading precious jewelry made out of gold. If you want to flaunt your wealth, wearing lots of gold helps out.

However, gold has another use only when it comes to magic. And that is the amplification of magical spells. For reasons not known of, gold is very susceptible to the influence of magic. Having gold on one's person allows them to empower their spells, and enchantments are seeming two or even three times as powerful if it's placed on an item made of pure gold.

It is why it is often the stereotype that alchemists and wizards try and turn common metals into gold. The more gold a wizard has, the more powerful their spells can become.

*********************************

Silver:

Silver is a metal greatly revered and worshiped. Though, like gold, it can be used to symbolize wealth and be used in trade. However, it is revered because it is a noble metal, and with this title comes a great use.

All creatures of darkness and evil, whether they be undead or demonic or otherwise, fear silver. That is because the purity and nobility of this metal cuts deep into their dark, evil nature. The very touch of silver burns their wicked flesh.

If one wishes to go hunting creatures of the darkness, a knife made of silver will be most helpful in dispatching the monstrosity.

*********************************

Karminite:

A metal that is only found in the deep caverns of the Dagger-Wall Mountains, and some theorize there is even more deeper down still. Though, the Age of the Green Menance had ensured that the Dwarves couldn't go deeper into the world underneath the surface to find out.

It is a metal that the Dwarves hold sacred and refuse to allow those of other races to ever have. It is because of the amazing properties that Karminite hold on its own, and how it can change depending on metalworking methods on the metal.

On its own, Karminite is much like steel, but it never rusts and is not affected by age. It even amplifies runic magic.

By putting it through a tempering method like turning iron into steel, one can turn Karminite into Mithril. It is as light as a feather, but more durable than steel. And it still keeps its lack of rusting properties, amplifications of runic magic, and even protects one from harmful magic effects.

Then, there is another metalworking technique that the Dwarves hold secret that is also much like a ritual. At the end of this, it turns Karminite into Deep Steel. It is heavier than usual, but it makes armor and weapons that are unbreakable. It cannot be affected by magic, or even enchanted by runes, but it is said that a God will bless a creation made of Deep Steel and make it a weapon that houses the portion of a God's might.

*********************************

Iron:

Iron, the most useful metal in the hands of a common man...but the bane of any wizard's existence. While a common man may look at iron and see a tool, a weapon, or something to improve upon to make steel, a magic user will look at iron like a prison or executioner.

For reasons unknown to modern magic, iron is the metal that is the bane of all magic. But only iron, it is ruined if it turns to steel. It must be pure iron if you wish to have the effect. This results in items made of pure iron to be used to combat mages.

Having an article of clothing made of iron, such as a ring or a circlet, to cancel out all magical abilities. A wizard with an iron ring will be incapable of using their magics. Weapons made of iron will burn and maim wizards at just a touch, and this effect even carries over to creatures with powerful magic in their bodies. Armor made of iron will make any magic flung at the wearer to just bounce off with no effect.

There is a tempering method for iron that turns it into Dark Iron. Dark Iron still has some of its anti-magic capabilities, but it weakens the influence enough to allow the item made of it to be enchanted by runes. It is a go-to material for most mage-slayers.

End of the lecture.
