Part 2?
Meltzer – Starting a wildfire 2
It is night. Meltzer hasn’t even realised until he left the fort. It makes sense however, seeing as he simply sleeps whenever he is tired, which was all the time to be honest. On second thought it is good that way, the street are less crowded at night meaning that less eyes would spy on him.
He pulls his hood deeper into his face and quickly walking makes his way through the inner city. At the gate he shows the governess seal to the guards and is let out without questions. ‘What a giant hassle.’ He thinks as he slows down his steps until he comes to a standstill in the middle of a crossroad.
The buildings around him show their low quality with a single glace. The wood is cut badly, the plastering broken open and the windows are simple holes in the walls with plates of wood to cover them. Meltzer sees a couple of torches approaching and quickly hides in an alleyway. Rats squeak in panic and run away from the sudden intruder that disturbed them as they were gorging themselves on the meagre leftovers of a soup kitchen.
Meltzer watches the two guards walk by and relaxes. True, he has the governess seal with him but he does not want to be seen if it is avoidable, people might raise questions. He walks out of the alleyway and thinks about his next move. What he needs to find is a man of character that would be able to build an organization of rebels around him.
Better yet would be to find an already existing organization. Meltzer starts moving and walks towards the farmer’s district. Surely, in a city this rich there must be some men that are discontent with the situation and in a city this old there would also be some secret circles of some description. Looking at the ridiculous amount of shared housing here there would have to be at least one shady organization that looks for freedom.
Meltzer finds what he is searching for after only a few minutes. A single man, stalking through the darkness of the night, trying his hardest to be seen as he stalks away from the Treasurer, always hiding in the shadows. He would have succeeded too if this were not specifically what Meltzer was looking for.
“Hello.” The man turns around, knife in hand, his eyes (the only part of his face not covered by a mask of cloth) widen in panic. “Easy, brother.” Meltzer says and comes closer, arms raised. “Who are you?” the figure asks, knife still pointing at Meltzer. “I am Meltzer, who am I talking too?” “None of your business.” Meltzer shrugs, “Okay, whatever, was just asking because i didn't want to seem rude, look whatever you are doing is probably illegal so you are working for people I want to talk too.” He grabs the piece of paper he has written earlier and hands it to the cautious man. “Please, take this to your superiors.”
The man quickly takes the paper from him and Meltzer takes a few steps back. “Tell them that I work for the mage that assaulted Arlheim.” Meltzer says and turns around after he is sure he will not end up with a knife in his back. 'A really giant hassle.' he thinks and walks back to the fort.
