Melted
It started with meetings at the park. Alina talked a lot. Nika listened.
Alina had darker features. Hazel eyes. Cocoa hair which was short with a messy fringe. Smiled a lot but more the corners of her lips. Mild and very slink-like.
Nika listened — as she had nothing to offer about Russia and Europe news. The economy in Belarus. Even the shortage of American fashion. She was none the wiser.
But Alina knew a lot. And it was fascinating.
“Money keeps going missing — funnelled up to cronies and our society suffers…” Alina said.
“What can we do?” Nika said.
“Good question — the right question,” Alina smiled, “We must fight!”
Nika shook her head, “That would only make things worse…”
What should someone like me fight for?
Alina leaned in and kissed Nika’s cheek. Blush. And in that moment the cold melted.
