Chapter 3 by Elfie Elfie

Trouble ahead

Melira in Peril

Pacing Move: [1] Foreshadow Trouble

Dearest Lavorra,

If you’re reading this - Gods below what a cliche - then you’ve received my messenger, and I am in terrible danger.

You can realise, darling, how painful it is for me to take on the role of damsel in distress. It’s terribly gauche.

However, while you and Kali and Razi were off on your jollies, I took it upon myself to look in on an old acquaintance near the Dunwald.

It is with some dismay and a quite unwelcome amount of hubris that I have to admit this was not a good idea.

“Mel would you please get to the point!” Lavorra mutters, eyes scanning the flowery text.

Aware that you will no doubt be reading this with your customary impatience, darling, I’ll get to the point: I’m in over my head. Something very wrong is happening in the Dunwald, and I need your help.

Get here as soon as you can. I don’t know how much time I have left. Bring weapons, Lavvy.

Yours,

Melira

Lavorra pinches the bridge of her nose in abject frustration, then takes a few calming breaths. It is so very typical of Mel to write an essay when a few lines would do, and to entirely neglect to explain what the danger actually is. Even in peril as the letter implies, she can’t help but indulge the dramatic.

She thinks. She can reach the outskirts of the Dunwald in just a day or two by foot, and surely someone there will have information on an extremely conspicuous, voluptuous Dark Elf with a boatload of airs and graces.

She should send word to Razi and Kaliana, the other members of their adventuring quartet. But Kali is serving aboard a ship somewhere on the Red Coast, and Razi… Razi will turn up at some stage with a new tattoo, a new axe, and a story to tell.

She could contact House Svarsfen, Melira’s family. But they’ve been estranged for years, and - assuming she’s even alive, Lavorra stamps down any doubts - Melira would probably kill her for getting them involved.

With that said, even with Mel being the black sheep of the family, if House Svarsfen hears of one of their daughters going missing, or being kidnapped… All of Halma will be looking at one very vengeful, very pissed off House of magically adept Dark Elves.

No, this one is up to her.

Lavorra encounters trouble on the road
