Meeting Adela's Parents

After going through your morning routine, you walk with Adela to her parent's place. It's not long before the two of you find yourself in suburbia, approaching the front porch of Adela's parent's place. As the doorbell rings, you inhale a deep breath, fearing what may greet you. You spend the next few seconds being hit with anxiety before the door opens. There, you're greeted by a short, round, middle-aged woman with a flow of red hair and a tie-dyed shirt. Her face lights up with a smile as she looks to Adela "Hey darling."

"Hey Mom."

Adela's Mom then looks to you. "And you must be the boyfriend?"

"Yes. Oscar."

"Pleasure to meet you. Come on in."

You're led to the kitchen, where you see a lanky man with long greying-brown hair that's tamed in a ponytail. He flashes a smile as he says "Hello there."

"Hey Dad. This is Oscar."

"Hey." You stammer.

Adela's Father stands up and extends his hand out to shake. You grip it tightly, trying your best to give him a firm handshake. "Pleasure to meet you."

"Would you guys like anything?" Mrs. Carney asks.

You turn to Adela, who says "Feel like a coffee?"

"Sure."

You sit down at the round table in the kitchen with Mr. Carney, who says "So you from around here?"

"Yeah I've lived here my whole life."

He gives you a nod. "Ever go to Carter Primary School?"

"Uhh no actually."

"Fair enough. Was just going to say that I work as a groundskeeper there."

"Ah. How long have you been doing that?"

"Since we moved here, which would be... eight years?"

"Nine dear." Mrs. Carney corrects, bringing over the coffees.

After a shrug, he says "Heh. Guess time does fly by."

"So what about you Oscar? What do you do for work?"

"Oh, I keep the computers running at my father's office. Sharpton Supplies." You reply.

"You enjoy it?"

"Yeah, I enjoy working with computers and as a bonus, it keeps a roof over my head."

Adela's Mom flashed a smile. "Good to hear."

The four of you continue to exchange small talk as you finish off your drinks. Once done, Adela's Mom says "Guess you'll be wanting the keys?"

"Please."

"Here you go, dear. Just remember to have it back by tonight."

"I will."

"And only you can drive." Mr. Carney adds.

"Yes Dad."

"Well, it was a pleasure meeting you Oscar."

"Thank you, Mrs. Carney. Goodbye."

"Bye." Mr. Carney says.

You and Adela leave her parent's place, ready to start your date.
