What Will You Do?
Meet the Cerulean Usurer in her father’s office
The Cerulean Usurer uses quill and graphene pen both to update her father’s ledgers. Her hands move from the books to a mechanical calculating device and back. The runes and orbs mean nothing to you but – judging by her severe expression – the numbers they symbolize are sizeable indeed. Her eyes linger for a moment on you standing in the doorway, but she returns to her work without any word.
A few moments pass and you are about to turn to leave when she points, wordlessly, at the same chair you sat when you signed your contract with her father. Some more time passes, with her writing and you waiting, until she addresses you: ”First Officer, was it? I expected your kind to go for my sister." She smirks then sighs. "Or did you not know?” She laughs.
You clear your throat but offer no further comment.
”A gentleman, huh? {if A Rogue = 1} You don’t look it. {endif} Quite a pleasant change, really. But I have to ask: What is it you expect to find here? I do enjoy a diversion with my dinner as much as the next woman but you seem – forgive my candour – like a fundamentally unserious personage.”
You take a few moments to consider your answer. Her tone of voice is sharp, accusatory almost, but you detect a hint of warmth in her eyes. She may in fact look for honesty more than agreement.
How Do You Answer?
- [The Almost Bishop of Ancleisle] Give a dignified answer
- Mention the hardships of your past. You are forever alert to the dangers that surround you
- Mention the hardships of your past. You intend to enjoy each moment like it is your last
- [A Heretic] Tell her that the things you know, the things you have seen, go beyond ‘serious’
- [A Scholar] You were serious once. It didn't last.
- [A Scholar] You once lived a serious life. And you still strive for truth.
- [A Hero of War] Laugh.
- Give her a shrug. You do live in the moment. If that makes you ‘unserious’, then so be it
- Add a new chapter
