Chapter 2 by GreatWiz GreatWiz

Who's our lucky master?

Max Turner, 21-year-old Nerdy Car Salesman

Author’s Note: Hello, everyone who’s taken an interest in the branch. I was inspired by reading some of the other branches of the story and took some inspiration from them. If you see some similar things to other branches, then that’s why. I hope you enjoy it since it’ll be my first time creating such a structured story like this.

Max allowed the practiced smile to fade from his lips as he sold his last car for the day. He sighed thinking of all the paperwork he had to do for all the cars he sold this week. It was expected though, since he’d gotten quite good at reading people and changing his attitude accordingly to get the best result. Some people wanted a bright, cheery person who complimented their choices and supported their decisions no matter how foolhardy it was. Others wanted a cold, no-nonsense salesman who wanted nothing but the truth and nothing else. The majority were somewhere in the middle.

It probably helped that he was a handsome and slightly tall young man that dressed in a tux. He quickly learned that wearing a tux made you statistically more likable and attractive, so why wouldn’t he wear it to make his job easier? He could lie to himself that he’d done so to sell the car, but the truth was that he didn’t feel comfortable being himself.

Max shook his head of those thoughts and unlocked his phone to see the picture of Kudo Shinichi from Case Closed that he made his wallpaper last week. He didn’t follow the show anymore, but he did watch a lot of the storyline episodes for it. Max wished that they would wrap it up so he could go back and finish it once and for all, but it's more likely that the author would die before that ever happened.

He checked his phone to see a text from his dad that read, ‘Happy Birthday’. Max forgot that today was his birthday but wasn’t surprised that his dad was the only person who texted him.

His phone rang, and he grimaced at the name of the caller before his expression twisted into a happy smile as he answered,

“Hello, Kimberly, how are you doing today?” he asked in a quite chipper tone.

“Great, but I told you to address me as Mrs. Smith,” responded Kimberly in a strict and slightly annoyed tone.

Max internally rolled his eyes but responded, “Of course, Mrs. Smith. I’m sorry it's been such a long day that it must’ve slipped my mind. What do I owe the pleasure of your call?”

“You’ve been doing an acceptable job so far.”

Max knew he was the best salesman they had here, so acceptable was putting it lightly.

“That’s why I wanted to offer you a position as a Sales Representative for the company. You could be doing so much more with your talents than being a simple salesman.”

Max translated her words to mean you’ve been doing such a great job that I can’t find a way to fire you, so I might as well give you a promotion that will somehow hurt you more than help you.

“Thank you for the offer, but I must decline. My studies must come first for me, and the increased workload from becoming a Sales Rep would surely have an impact on my grades,” replied Max as he internally sighed from having to deal with this annoying woman who seemed to hate him for no reason.

“That’s unfortunate. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on you- I mean eye out for future workplace opportunities.”

Max smiled widened just a bit more, “I’m sure you will. Have a good night, Boss,” said Max as he immediately hung up.

Max was glad it was over, and he didn’t have to deal with his boss anymore. He did wonder why she hated him since she was barely ever around their car lot, and he couldn’t remember doing anything to make her hate him. Max didn’t think that it mattered much even if he knew the reason since he felt that even if he did know she wouldn’t stop what she was doing. He only had to deal with it until he graduated in a year or two. Right now, all he wanted to do was go home and work on the game he was developing. He was nearing completion of the JRPG that he was developing. If only he had friends to do the voice acting for it. Oh well, the game could still do well without them. He started up the car before everything turned black, and he was knocked ****.
