Reed Richards heard his wife's question and his mouth immediately formed a hard line. His eyes stretched, one of the most disturbing uses of his powers, and immediately searched out the lab to see if anyone was within listening range. Then his arm stretched out and he carefully closed and sealed the door. Only then did Reed's body resume its normal proportions.

"I won't ask how you know that name," he said carefully. "But if you know that... I have to tell you that I promised her I wouldn't tell anyone. Even you. Believe me, darling, if she hadn't made me swear—"

Sue Storm's spine stiffened. Her teeth were clenched.

"Who IS she, Reed?" she said. Anger in her voice now.

"Mary Jane Watson Parker," Reed said. He sagged against a work table. "It wasn't long after her marriage to Peter. You were recovering from Franklin. She had an—it was an ectopic pregnancy. Non-viable. Peter was going through his issues with that symbiote at the time, and she didn't know who to go to. So I arranged everything. Total privacy. Fake ID, fake name, paid in cash, even went with her and held her hand. She didn't—she knew Peter would understand, but she felt ashamed about it. I told her there was nothing she could have done, but you know how people can be."

Sue Storm's mouth fell open. Her hands covered her face, leaving only her eyes exposed.

My God, she thought. And I suspected him!

Sue stepped forward and wrapped her husband in a fierce hug, tears in her eyes. His arms wrapped around her, holding her tight.

"Oh, Jesus, Reed. I didn't know. I just saw those photos of you and I—" she said.

"Photos?" Reed said, and now it was his turn to frown. "What photos? Who—?"

Sue Storm sighed...and then she took out the envelope with the glamour shots and the contract that Mae had signed. Cheeks burning with embarrassment, Sue explained.
