Chapter 3

Marie Collins: 18yo, Highschool senior
Marie was not happy.
To be fair, what else were they supposed to expect from her? She should have been grateful given all that the company was doing for them, but when it uproots your life with little to no warning, there was bound to be animosity. There she was though, standing on the front lawn as she and her family gazed up at the new house before them.
There it was. A gorgeous two- story home in the middle of suburbia. The wrap-around porch cast long shadows as the sun begins to set in the sky and Marie wanted to go and just sit on the swing that lazily rocked back and forth in the shade. Everything about it was picturesque, and for a moment, Marie had forgotten about why they were here.
It was being given to them as a gift. Their father had just been offered a job as vice president for the company that he worked for, and this was part of his promotional package. He had mentioned before that the company made investments in its employees, but she never believed that they would give him a house. He just had to stick it out until he had made his mark. What that mark was, Marie couldn't tell you. There was work to be done, though, and her dad never liked idle hands.
"All right, kids! You will have plenty of time to gawk later. This is our new home, and it isn't going anywhere. Now go see your rooms, and come back down so you can help me bring in a few of these boxes." Marie got out of the car and watched as her dad and mom began bringing in the boxes that they had stashed in the back of the minivan.
Her dad was a tall man, and you could tell that he took care of himself. Despite being in an office all day, he had a healthy tan and a strong sense about him. He stood well above the rest of his family by a head. His dark hair had a speckle of respectable grey spread out and his glasses framed his green eyes as he turned to help his wife.
Samantha Collins was the next one to get out of the car. Marie's mom was the shorter of the two with her head coming up to her dad's chest. What she lacked in height, however, she more than made up for in other areas. Her sweater and jeans hugged her generous curves. Even with the weight packed on you could see how she would have looked in her younger days. She bared it with a graceful personality, though, and never said anything if she noticed. The only one that she had eyes for was her husband.
Getting out of the car, she grabbed a hair band and tied her long blonde hair up in a ponytail. Her blue eyes shone in the light of the setting sun, and a smile lit up her face. "Oh Honey! This is for us?!" She had only seen pictures of the house before they arrived. Now she realized that this was more than she could have imagined.
"Oh yeah. It is all ours. The company took care of the financing and everything so we only owe a bit on the house. The company said they wanted to 'award my generous contributions to their business.' So long as you don't mind me working for them for another few years, this should be a magnificent home for us." His arms wrapped around his wife and pulled her into a deep kiss.
Marie just rolled her eyes and grabbed the first box she could before she headed in.
The company had gone all out for this home. They even paid for a moving company to take care of everything ahead of time as well. The furniture had all moved in and arranged before they even stepped foot in the house. The only thing they had to take care of were a few personal items that needed to be carried with them. Lugging her box upstairs, Marie pushed her way into her room and set the box down before taking in the sight of her new home.
