Make your excuses

While the evening was rather enjoyable, you can’t help but feel that the longer this goes on, the more likely it is that you will be caught and expelled. Not to mention all of the trouble this will cause Dr. Balkin if she is caught with a student. Perhaps it would be better to cut your losses until you figure out the best way to handle this situation.

“I’m sorry, Dr. Balkin…um, Hilary,” you correct yourself under her playfully scolding glance. “It’s just that I did promise my parents I would drive down this weekend after classes to visit with them. I’m their only child, and with me no longer living at home while in school…”

Dr. Balkin smiles. “Such a dutiful son. I completely understand. Then we shall make arrangements for your next class when you return.” With that she kisses you softly and motions for you to go so she can clean up the classroom.

The rest of the week goes by without incident. Dr. Balkin is still her same cheerful, energetic self, and her actions to you in World Literature give no indication to anyone about what happened earlier that week.

After your last class on Friday, you pack up your weekend homework and your dirty laundry and start the two hour drive back to your parents’ house. When you finally arrive, you notice a crimson red convertible Camero in the driveway. You don’t recognize the car, so you leave your belongings in your compact and cautiously open the door to the house.

There, sitting in the living room, are your parents, laughing and having coffee…with Dr. Balkin.
