Chapter 13 by Zebra Zebra

Being the mayor of a settlement is not easy. You will have to make difficult decisions. You think about the problem and say that…

Make a place for the ghouls...

"Ladies and gentlemen, I understand your anger and fear. Losing loved ones and seeing our community suffer is heartbreaking, and it's normal to seek someone to blame. But we must remember to judge fairly and not let our emotions cloud our judgment completely." Dar pointed out reasonably to the members of the budding community of the oasis, most of whom he knew by name.

"While it is true that ghouls can be dangerous, not all of them are the same. They, too, have come to The Green Oasis in search of a better life. As your leader, I am responsible for the safety and well-being of every resident here, whether wind rider, human, mutant or even ghoul." The former wind rider captain turned community leader flapped his single wing slowly. It was a reminder to all of them that he had suffered just as much as anyone here.

"To alleviate your concerns and prevent further conflict, I propose we create a special isolated quarter in our settlement." Dar explained to the upset crowd, keeping his voice calm yet powerful as he spoke to the crowd. "This quarter will be separate from the rest of the community, ensuring your safety and well-being. It will be a place where the ghouls can live freely and peacefully, while also protecting you from potential threats." Dar was aware that this was a far from perfect plan, yet it was the only idea he could come up with that was anywhere near fair for both sides.

"Ghouls have their own skills and abilities that could be beneficial to us as well. They can help with tasks that normal humans might find difficult due to their physical nature. We should try to be open-minded and understand that we all have something to offer. And I think that will make us stronger as a community, not all ghouls are monsters just like not all humans are slavers.. or all Rabbitkin are sluts."

Dar paused a moment to let his words sink in, even as he looked over at a cute rabbit girl visiting from the warren. "I encourage everyone to set aside their anger and work towards a solution that benefits all. This is our community, and we must stand united, even in the face of challenges. Let's show the world that we're not defined by prejudice, but by our ability to coexist and thrive together."

Dar watched the crowd milling around, however they were mollified by his words it seemed. "As for the injured, we will extend our resources to ensure proper medical care and assistance. Let's come together and use this unfortunate event as a means to grow stronger as a community. Together, we can overcome any obstacle."

As the crowd began to disperse, discussions brewed among them. Some were still hesitant, others intrigued by the idea of coexisting with ghouls, and a few even curious about the skills they could bring to the table. Dar could see the wheels turning in their minds, and although he knew it wouldn't be easy, he held onto hope that they could make this work.

In the following days, the construction of the isolated quarter began. With the help of the wind riders, humans, and even some ghouls, they built a secure area with its own entrance and walls. The responses were mixed, but the spirit of unity was palpable.

Inside the quarter, Zara, a wise and influential ghoul, took charge. She worked alongside the community leaders to establish rules and systems that would ensure the safety of all inhabitants, no matter their species. The ghouls grew vegetables in a communal garden, maintained the water channels, and did other tasks that required their unique physical attributes.

Dar standing firmly on his conviction of fairness and unity, he became a liaison between the ghouls and the rest of the community. His intelligence and empathy made him a natural leader among all, who looked up to him with admiration.

Dar's leadership and the community's newfound unity became a beacon of hope in the harsh desert, proving that even in the most trying of circumstances, acceptance and kindness could triumph over prejudice and fear.

And so, the Green Oasis flourished not only as a thriving community but also a symbol of hope in a world that desperately needed it. They had transformed adversity into strength, and that was a story that would be told for generations to come.

It seems that you were convincing enough and the decision to build a "special" area for ghouls "extinguished" the conflict. But what will happen in the future?
