Magic

Magic is all around us but is seldom noticed. Should one look at the details all the things which happen every day with an eyeglass and a purely rational, and scientific mindset, one would find many inconsiteneies. For every plot hole or forgotten detail, magic lies at the root of it.

Being a substance of infinite versatility, it may be, in theory it can be used to overcome any hindrance or achieve any feat.

All merfolk use magic, most of the time on a subconscious level, and continue to do so for all of their lives unaware of the fact at all.

However, not all merfolk are equally talented.

Some species have an inborn talent while occasionally, rare individuals are born with exceptional ability or potential in spite of their genealogy.

Although talent may facilitate the use of magic as well as allow for the merfolk to wield more powerful magic, using magic consciously requires some measure of understanding and study.

But don't put your tail in a twist if you have no talent. Just know that it exist, and there are a few rare individuals who can use it to achieve any feat.
